Bypass - what is it? How to install a bypass for heating?
Make your life in a country house more comfortable, and repair and operation of the heating system would be convenient for many. At the moment, two types of boilers are installed in cottages and cottages: modern design and outdated.
Innovative equipment
Constructions of the heating system, acquired not too long ago, usually already have a built-in circulation pump.
- Very efficient distribution of water (or other coolant) through the radiators of the system. The pump is simply necessary in cases where the length of the pipes in the room is considerable. This equipment is also very relevant even with a large number of radiators. In addition, the use of a pump in the system is recommended in cottages on several floors.
- Such designs are not afraid of air and inaccuracies in the slope of the pipes during laying.
As you can see, the pump gives simply huge advantages. Using such equipment makes the system work as efficiently as possible.
Old Construction
Unfortunately, many houses have boilers without a pump. However, it is quite easy to fix this situation.
So, bypass - what is it?
A bypass is a section of a pipe cut parallel to the main line. The circulation pump is located on it. On both sides (from the inlet and outlet of the coolant), cranes are mounted. Also, the stop valves are installed on the length of the pipeline under the pump. That is, between the input and output of the bypass. When installing this element, it is important first of all to choose the correct location on the pipe. Usually this node is cut on the return line, not far from the boiler. It is best to choose the place where the temperature of the coolant is not too high. It is not necessary to mount the bypass with the pump very close to the boiler in order to avoid overheating. This node should be located only horizontally.
Equipment selection
To build this structure you need the following elements:
- Properly circulating pump.
- Crane. Bypass, as already mentioned, is installed parallel to the main pipe. The last element between the entrance and the exit is attached to this element. The valve can be replaced by a check valve. Such a solution will allow the equipment to operate in an automatic mode, without human intervention. However, conventional cranes are considered more reliable. The fact is that the quality of water in modern systems leaves much to be desired. If the scale or solid particles get inside the valve, the equipment will not work correctly.
- Two cranes designed for installation on both sides of the pump. It is best to choose the ball. Such elements are not subject to repair (in case of breakage they have to be replaced), but their design allows the heat carrier to flow through the pipe without reducing the speed. The bypass pipe can also be equipped with rotary valves. However, in these elements, the diameter in the rubber gasket is half the diameter of the pipe. Of course, this will constrain the coolant flow. Repairing such shut-off valves is elementary. Therefore, you can pick up and rod elements, but double the diameter.
Selecting a circulation pump
Pumps - the equipment is extremely complex.
Mounting order
So, what is needed for the bypass, we found out. Let's consider the method of its installation. The first thing to do is to install a check valve on the main pipe (or tap). The following procedure is as follows:
- In the course of the coolant - the first tap;
- The circulation pump itself;
- Second tap.
Often a special pump is also used, which protects against particulate matter and a scale filter. This element is advisable to install in the event that where the house is located, water has an increased degree of rigidity. It is also worthwhile to use a filter on old, long-time unchecked systems. Of course, in the event that you purchased an expensive pump, the use of this protective node will also be appropriate.
What is a filter and how to install it?
This unit is equipped with a mesh, designed for the retention of solid particles - scales and pieces of scale, coming off the pipes. At the bottom there is a special tank, into which all the "garbage" goes. This element of the filter design must be periodically removed and cleaned. In most cases, this mesh is really useful. In order to imagine how much scale can accumulate inside the equipment, it is worth remembering the electric heater of a conventional electric kettle.
Bypass installation for radiators
For heating radiators, bypass can only be used when using a single-pipe heating system. This element is installed between the return pipe and the supply pipe. It is designed with a bypass for adjusting the heating of the radiators. The presence of cranes in this design allows you to control the amount and intensity of the coolant movement inside the battery. Also, the bypass for heating in this case is an element that makes it possible to carry out repairs with great convenience and not only in summer but also in winter. All that is required is to close the water supply faucets and open the drain. Of course, the coolant will flow to the lower floors quickly and efficiently only if the bypass tube has the same diameter as the riser.
Some features
When installing the structure on the main line, you should consider what type of pump will be used.
When installing all the bypass elements, it is worth using the "American" nuts. Such fasteners, if necessary, will quickly remove the cranes and pump for repair. When installing a non-return valve on the main pipe, a special coupling must be used for the same purpose. The thread on one side of the pipe must have the same length. Between the valve and the main pipeline is established a piece of pipe. If necessary, the coupling is twisted by thread. Thus, it is on a piece of pipe. The latter is simply unscrewed from the valve.
Thus, the answer to the question: "Bypass - what is this?" Is extremely simple. This is a small piece of pipe, which makes the heating system work as efficient as possible. Its design is extremely simple and in principle the installation should not cause any special difficulties. But only, of course, when the master of the house has appropriate skills. Otherwise it's better to be safe and contact a specialist.
