Treatment of atherosclerosis. Diet as one of the most important factors of treatment.

About atherosclerosis was known even in Ancient Greece, actually, its name is the disease and received from the Greek atheros (gruel, chaff) and sklhroz (dense, solid). To date, this is one of the most common chronic lesions of the arteries, which is characterized by multiple or single cholesterol (lipid) deposits on their inner shells. Later on, the connective tissue develops in the affected arteries , calcium deposits are deposited in the walls of the vessels, which causes deformation and narrowing of the lumen of the vessel, up to its complete blockage. Naturally, as a result, the organ begins to suffer, which is supplied with blood through an artery damaged by atherosclerotic plaques . In addition, there is a risk of acute blockage (occlusion) of the lumen of the vessel by the formed thrombus, or, which happens much less often, the contents of the destroyed plaque, and possibly both. As a result, it can lead to necrosis (heart attack, stroke), gangrene of the organ, supplied with a sick artery.

Causes of the disease

To date, this vascular disease is rapidly growing younger. Physicians say that the causes of atherosclerosis are primarily in hypodynamia (lack of mobility). In addition, there are a number of other factors and diseases that provoke the development of this disease:

  • Obesity
  • Cholelithiasis
  • Gout
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Smoking
  • High cholesterol in the blood
  • Postmenopause
  • Elderly age

Serious significance is attached to the factor of heredity. A very important role is played by human nutrition, saturated with foods in excess containing animal fat. But this is rather a predisposing factor, and not the main reason. To the risk factors should be attributed and psychoemotional stress, and chronic stress, which have a negative impact on the nervous system, a busy pace of life and other specific negative conditions.

Especially dangerous is atherosclerosis of the bca (brachiocephalic arteries). What is the brachiocephalic artery? This is a major trunk vessel emanating from the aorta, and is divided into three arteries: the carotid, vertebral and subclavian. They contribute to the normal flow of the right half of the humerus and brain, and precisely because brain nutrition depends on them, atherosclerosis is especially severe.

As mentioned above, because of atherosclerotic plaques, lumens can close inside the vessels, which leads to a lack of nutrition of the organs, which the arteries supply with blood, but this is especially dangerous for the brain. The brain supply is provided by three branches of the arteries: the carotid, brachiocephalic trunk and one of the branches of the artery of the left-sided clavicle. They form the Wellisian (closed) circle, which supplies blood to all parts of the brain. If blood flow is disturbed, even in one of the vessels there is a malfunction in the blood supply system of the brain, the blood distribution is wrong, which can lead to a stroke.

The main signs of this disease are dizziness when turning the head and hypotensive condition. This is a signal for immediate contact with a neurologist.

As a rule, the main non-drug treatment of atherosclerosis is a diet. The reason is that a person with this disease needs to lower the blood lipid levels. If the dietary treatment is planned correctly, and, importantly, will be strictly observed, it will be possible to correct the violation of the exchange of fats and reduce the content of atherogenic lipids in the blood. And this is a very important step, from which the treatment of atherosclerosis begins . The diet implies some limited use of foods containing high cholesterol and animal fats, and vice versa, increasing the consumption of foods rich in polyunsaturated acids, vitamins that have an antioxidant effect.

In what cases is the treatment of atherosclerosis - diet shown:

  • In the presence of signs of atherosclerosis or lesions of arteries, found through diagnostic research.
  • The presence of risk factors, such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, smoking.
  • High concentration of cholesterol in the blood.

Non-medicamentous treatment of atherosclerosis. Diet:

  1. Low-calorie.
  2. Containing low levels of animal fats.
  3. Low in saturated fatty acids.
  4. High in unsaturated fatty acids.
  5. Limited consumption of easily digestible carbohydrates.
  6. The main condition: reducing the consumption of foods with high cholesterol.
