"Solidarity" means "agree"

Unanimity - the present, not done - is worth a lot. And it is rare, especially in Western communities, not prone to conformism. But in the Soviet state the word "solidarity" became a cult. "Solidarity" - it meant "I agree, I support". The word is bookish, but it can often be heard in the speech of people of different social strata, it was often heard from the stands.

Where does the borrowing come from?

What does the word "solidarity" mean? In Russian, the original "solidarity" came from the French, and was born in the ancient Roman state. It is connected with the concept of firmness and integrity, unity, it is related in origin to the modern word "solid" - solid, impressive. "Solidarity" means "wholeheartedly sympathize, support".

That is, with the help of this concept they express approval, and this approval is very strong. It is connected with the concept of unanimity, support, means firmness, the clear support of the pronouncing "I am in solidarity." This is the highest degree of approval of your words interlocutor.

Reasons for the popularity of the concept

The term "solidarity" became popular precisely because in the Soviet state the unanimity, the integrity of society, although often formal, was a declared and factual value. It is difficult to manage a disunited group, but solidary people who do not feel the right to opinions that have abandoned critical thinking are easy "material" for rulers. The word was imposed, so the very fact of its popularity is amazing. In itself, outside propaganda - this is a very bright and kind word, it indicates a hot support and strength of relations.

More than emotions

"Solidarity" is not just "having the same opinion with you". It is also a willingness to defend common ideals and values. Solidarity is an active support, not just sympathy. For example, workers of a certain city of a certain sphere of industry are on strike.

If the workers of another city in the same sphere of industry are in solidarity, they too will temporarily cease their work. In everyday speech, the word also expresses emotional support, although the initial meaning is only related to an expression of willingness to help the deed. And in official sources the word was used more in connection with real actions.

In our time in official sources the word has become less common. But people often say "solidarity", expressing consent and support, however, often exclusively emotional. So, the word was not simply imposed "from above", it is really connected with the values of the people. That's why it survived.
