Let's see what is higher - the Statue of Liberty or the Eiffel Tower?

Recently, the original ratings of the scale of famous buildings began to gain popularity. Surely each of us at least once came across infographics, where the sizes of different architectural structures were noted relative to each other. It's really interesting what sizes modern colossuses have. Here, for example, what is higher - the Statue of Liberty or the Eiffel Tower? Let's try to figure this out.

Eiffel, or How it all began

Alexander Gustave Eiffel had German roots, the surname of his ancestors sounded like Bonickhausen. In Dijon, an area in France, where a famous engineer was born, they moved to the beginning of the XVIII century and immediately after the transfer changed their surname to the Eifel - this sound was more pleasant to the ear of the French and, accordingly, easier to pronounce. It will later be of interest to the whole world to know what height of the Eiffel Tower is the creation of an engineer, and in his childhood no one could see in Gustave the future genius. As a child he was completely inconspicuous, did not stand out from the crowd of Dijon boys. Childhood of the famous scientist passed in a picturesque area, where the whole atmosphere was relaxed and little stimulated to scientific activity.

Student years

In the province of Dijon, where the family of the engineer lived, there was a lyceum with a technical inclination, it was he who graduated from the young Gustave. After it was decided to send a gifted boy to Paris to try his hand at entering the polytechnic school - a very famous and respected institution of those times. But, alas, Gustav waited for failure, true, not on technical disciplines, with this he was all excellent. Our hero cheated on banal eloquence. That's what he never learned to own, although later he was a public person.

I had to go to another institution, called the Paris School of Arts and Crafts. Later, the great Eifel confesses that this turn of fortune was very successful for him, and will appreciate the years spent at this school. The main emphasis of the teachers was that students develop the ability to create, and all technical points were only an auxiliary thing. At that time no one knew that the Statue of Liberty or the Eiffel Tower was higher, because these structures did not exist at that time.

The beginning of the Eiffel career

The first work of the genius was the place of an assistant in a design firm called "Charles Neuve." He was very appreciated by the employer and promoted on a career ladder. This company produced bridges. At that time, there was a huge demand, because railways were being actively built across the country. Literally three years later Gustave became a companion, but his salary did not suit him, and soon the separation from the employer followed. A person who did not know that above - the Statue of Liberty or the Eiffel Tower, sang the beauty of metal structures. He was sure that in them is not only strength, but also beauty. A young engineer decided to start his own company and continue building bridges.

Ideas for creating masterpieces

It so happened that Eiffel had to leave his homeland for three whole years. Critics' attacks on the engineer and his construction began in the country, since he was the first who began to build bridges in a certain way. The engineer had to listen to a lot of unpleasant things. At that time in France there were several collapses of railway bridges, as a result of which there were many victims, and then a real baiting began.

In the same place, on a journey, Gustave will have the idea of creating the most famous building of France. Perhaps then the engineer had no idea what the height of the Eiffel Tower would be in meters, but he already knew exactly what its design should be. To create a tower of this type, genius was inspired by the research of a Swiss doctor who managed to study the structure of the human thigh bone and to establish: the presence of a multitude of cartilage distributes the load in such a way that this is not a fat bone capable of withstanding the entire body. As a result of the ingenious idea, the highest building of the world appeared at that time - the Eiffel Tower. Its design is designed so brilliantly that for more than a century of history it did not need major repairs.

"Daughters" of the Eiffel

What can the Americans and the French have in common? It turns out that the national symbols, the Statue of Liberty, too, was created according to the drawings of the famous Eiffel. Probably not everyone knows how high the Statue of Liberty is. She is 93 meters, but her French sister is much higher - as much as 324 meters. Until now, it remains a mystery how one person managed to create such beautiful structures that have become symbols of the countries. And do it not from noble marble or gold, but from simple metal. No matter what is above - the Statue of Liberty or the Eiffel Tower, it is important that Gustave Eiffel created not just designs, he created the symbols of the era.
