Signs of sinusitis in adults: difference from symptoms in children, treatment for all ages

On both sides of our nose there are two paired airway cavities - the maxillary sinuses, communicating with the nasal cavity with a small hole. The entire maxillary (maxillary) sinus is lined with a mucous membrane. The presence of inflammatory changes in it is called sinusitis. Signs of sinusitis in adults can arise in the life of every person, they need to know.

This disease occurs most often when you get an infection from the nose with a cold or from caries-affected teeth. Predisposing to the development of antritism factors can be called a curvature of the nasal septum, allergic rhinitis, a decrease in the immune response. Thickening of nasal conchaes (three of them on each side) and adenoids are specific for children factors predisposing to stagnant processes in the paranasal sinuses.

Signs of sinusitis in adults

Acute sinusitis has the following symptoms:

1. Difficulty of nasal breathing from one or both sides.

2. Pain below the eye, which can give into the ear or imitate toothache, - it is the sign that allows you to suspect sinusitis. Pain has these characteristics:

A) increases when the head is tilted forward;

B) the intensity of pain increases in the evening and passes during the night, if outflow from the sinus was possible;

C) if you press on the area that is approximately at the level of the wing of the nose, there is pain;

D) the pain is reduced when blowing.

3. Abundant (but not always) detachable from the nose. It is mostly purulent.

4. Headache (not always).

5. Often increases body temperature.

6. Weakness, fatigue, fatigue.

The signs of sinusitis in the child are slightly different. In an acute process, they are:

  • Increased body temperature;
  • Conversation "in the nose";
  • A runny nose of varying degrees of severity, which lasts more than three days;
  • Decreased appetite;
  • Tears in the eyes;
  • If the child is already large enough, he can complain of pain in the head, in the nose area or directly point to the localization of pain near the nose; The characteristic of pain is the same as in adults.

Signs of sinusitis in adults in the case of a chronic process

Chronic genyantritis often occurs against the background of all the same conditions that make it difficult to drain the contents from the sinus in the event that the acute sinusitis has not been cured or in the sinus was not such an active flora.

His symptoms are the labored breathing of one nostril, the reduction in smell, the periodic headaches in this half of the head, the discharge of a viscous mucus of various colors from the nose. Increased temperature, decreased appetite and drowsiness are not typical.

Diagnosis of sinusitis

If you find yourself showing signs of sinusitis (in adults), contact an ENT doctor. He will examine the nasal cavity, and if he has any suspicions of this disease, he will send you for an X-ray study.

Children are also diagnosed with an X-ray picture, but endoscopic examination of the nose can also be performed. Also a method of accurate diagnosis is a computed tomography.

Treatment of genyantritis

When the genyantritis (signs) is defined , and treatment should be appointed immediately, without delay. When purulent process shows the reception of antibiotics: in adults it is usually "Lincomycin" in pricks or "Amoxiclav" in tablets. To children the reception of macrolide preparations more often helps ("Macropen", "Sumamed").

But the most important thing in the treatment of sinusitis is providing an outflow of sinus contents. To prevent sinus puncture, instillation of vasoconstrictive drugs ("Naftizine" and the like) is applied in the nose, washing the nose with saline solution of sodium chloride or with sea solutions (Aqua-Maris, Salin).
