However paradoxical it may sound, the cocktail was invented in America during the period of the dry law. In those days, alcohol was under strict prohibition. And drinkers were forced to go to various tricks to enjoy their favorite drinks. The cocktail "Long Island", the recipe of which at that time was kept secret, looked very much like ordinary tea. He was even served with a slice of lemon for more similarity. Its color and flavor did not betray the composition of the drink. Used it cold with pieces of ice (this tradition has survived to this day). Thus, the locals could afford to relax a little after a hard day's work, without fear of punishment from the authorities.

The cocktail "Long Island", the recipe of which later became famous all over the world, came out of the shadows only in 1970. There is one interesting story related to this drink. According to her, the origin of the cocktail is inextricably linked with the unusual "play" of local laborers. It was to go all the way along the street, without missing a single bar here. Of course, the winner was the one who managed after such libations to get to the end of the street on his feet.

The cocktail "Long Island", the recipe of which contains a lot of strong alcoholic beverages, was and still is very popular. However, the name of its creator is still shrouded in mystery.

There is another version of the origin of the drink, according to which the authorship belongs to one resourceful barman, who wanted to please the client. It is rumored that one of the similar establishments of that time regularly visited a man accompanied by a charming girl and always ordered whiskey. As a result, his companion put him a condition - either she or alcohol. A man, like a true gentleman, chose a lady. And since then in the bar she always ordered him tea with ice. But one day, when she came out, the resourceful client asked him to mix some strong cocktail that would look like this invigorating soft drink with lemon. From the combination of gin, rum, tequila, liquor, vodka and tea for color, Long Island was born. Cocktail, the recipe of which can now be learned from almost any source, is now regularly served in restaurants and cafes. However, if desired, it can be prepared at home.

You need 20 ml of gin, a little less vodka (15 ml), as much silver tequila, light rum, as well as orange liqueur, half a lemon, a little Gomme syrup (30 ml), ice cubes and "Cola" to taste.

Prepare a high glass. Put ice in it. Mix all the alcohol and syrup in the glass. Press the same juice of lemon. Pour out the cola. All carefully mixed with a special spoon for cocktails.
