Gender Relations in the Modern Society

If we take as a basis the explanation of the concept of "gender" in dictionaries, which is interpreted as a "social sex," the very expression "gender relations" can be regarded as the social relations of members of society belonging to different biological sexes. The main thing in social interactions is the mental characteristics of the individual, the behavioral properties of the individual.

That is, speaking in simple human language, we can say that gender relations are non-sexual relations between male representatives and female representatives in the broadest sense of the word.

In new jokes, in various humoresques and ironic monologues that sound everywhere from scenes and TV screens, the question of "female logic" and "male logic" is being discussed. These two concepts are contrasted, as it were, fighting each other. Although the concept of "logic" is completely out of place. Thus, stereotypes of gender behavior are derided.

Gender relations are conditioned not by the biological sex, but by the social position of a person, his education, his material position, his place of residence. For example, no one is surprised by the fact that an elderly businessman has a young wife or mistress who does not work, does not study, does nothing at home, but constantly gets expensive jewelry and visits restaurants. This distribution of roles in this category of our society is almost the norm. However, it will be naive to assume that in an ordinary village family a woman will walk on a week-end in a chic expensive dress, sleep before dinner, and hire a housekeeper to clean the house. Here are completely different concepts about the distribution of gender roles in life.

In the ancient world, the distribution of gender roles in society played an important role, because it helped people survive. The man had the role of master, and the woman should subordinate his will to his desires in everything. He was a defender, a breadwinner and patron, She is a defenseless, dependent and obedient slave. In contrast to the notion of "sex," the modern word "gender" fully equates a woman with a man in all spheres of life, allowing her to take into account and study her gender psychological features, but not allowing to be humiliated by the suspicion of the "weakness" of the female sex.

Despite the fact that women have long overcome the main gender-related internal and external behavioral roles and began to behave more freely in society, not only doing household chores, but also realizing themselves as successful professionals, it is obvious that the stereotype of a stronger (smart And successful) masculine nature and weak (flawed) feminine, reflected in the language. Pay attention, because the words "professional" or, for example, "librarian" - masculine gender, and an attempt to call a woman "professional" ("librarian") sounds like a way to "masculinize" her, give her masculine features. At the same time, if you translate the word grammatically and add a suffix and the end of the female gender "professional" or "librarian" to its root, the word will sound an insult. This phenomenon has long been fighting in the West, making the necessary changes in grammar. For example, in German, all words relating to the names of professions have the form of a masculine gender, and a feminine one without fail.

The person who committed a grammatical error and used the form of the word with the end of the masculine gender, risks falling under suspicion, like a sexist, a misogynist. Innocent (in the opinion of the average Russian citizen) a slip in the behavior of a European can lead to serious consequences. An unobtrusive offer to seek help from a psychoanalyst will be the softest of the means available in the arsenal of suppressing such antisocial behavior. This is the result of Europeans' struggle for gender equality and a way of preventing violence against women.
At the same time, for any European, the ignorance of most of our citizens in matters of gender psychology and gender equality is evident. Disregarding the law on the equality of men and women, the "head of the family" in Russia often considers it normal to offend, humiliate his "second half". Often in such families, there is also assault and even self-mutilation. It's terrible not even that this phenomenon exists, but how indifferent the society regards it.

However, it is precisely the established gender stereotypes that make our citizens ignore the fact that men are often subjected to violence by their wives in the family. From birth, boys are taught that girls should not be offended - they are weak. Such gender relations in the family lead to the fact that growing up and falling "under the heel" of a friend's life, some men sometimes get publicly slapped and insulted, without the possibility (primarily psychological) to protect themselves.

In America, there are absolutely opposite problems in gender relations. Famous throughout the feminist trend requires complete equality. And the reason for filing an application to the court may be that a man misses a lady forward in the transport or opens the door in front of her.

Thus, the concept of "gender relations" refers to the social sphere of interaction between biological sexes, and gender psychology studies the problems arising in it .
