"Kaluga" is a column type station with a small depth of laying (only ten meters) with 3 spans.

This structure was designed by the architects Yu.A. Kolesnikova and NI Demchinsky. The main hall has the design of a typical project called the centipede, but it differs slightly from this type of column pitch and their number (the distance in a row between columns is 6.5 m, 26 columns are arranged in 2 rows).

The columns of the hall are decorated with Baikal pink marble, the walls are made of white ceramic tiles decorated with metal inserts (MA Shmakov, AA Leontieva), and the floors are lined with gray granite.

The theme of bas-reliefs is the exploration of outer space.

The metro station "Kaluzhskaya" does not have its ground lobby. The city can be accessed only by underground passages that open on the street. Obrucheva, Profsoyuznuyu, Bakery and Scientific passages, on the Starokaluzhskoye highway and on the Academic Keldysh square.

From the history

From 1950 to 1961, another station was called "Kaluga" (the metro line Koltsevaya). Now it is known to Muscovites as "October".

In 1964-1974 the metro station "Kaluzhskaya" was ground, being the terminal on the radius of Kaluga. Its location at that time is the territory of the depot TP-5 "Kaluzhskaya". Any decorations here at that time were absent.

After the line to the Belyaevo metro station was enlarged in 1974, the ground station was closed and moved underground. The changes here were not very significant. The platform and ways are preserved. There are also some old original lamps.

The premises of the former lobby are now used as rest rooms for working personnel.

The name of the station was received in connection with passing near Kaluzhskoe highway, which is a continuation of Profsoyuznaya street. The square with the same name is located at a great distance from the metro.

Sights of the surroundings, infrastructure

Not very can please the metro area "Kaluga" of avid theatergoers and amateurs to visit museums. And yet here you can find things to do and where to relax. There are a lot of various cafes, shops and restaurants here.

Also close to the station "Kaluzhskaya" there are a huge number of outlets resembling mini-markets.

On this section of Moscow the metro is rather convenient, the transport communication is developed: route city buses, trolleybuses and taxis.
