What is this square, its history and location

In China-city, a historical district in the center of Moscow, there is a small but very cozy square - Ilinsky. It occupies only 2.28 hectares. Was defeated in 1887. It was designed by architect Sherwood Vladimir Osipovich and engineer-colonel Lyashkin AI.

On its construction was spent about 50 thousand rubles, donated by officers and soldiers of the Grenadier Corps. The author of the monument was the architect of the square - VO Sherwood.

The southern entrance to the square is decorated with a monument to the Slavic enlighteners Cyril and Methodius. It was opened on May 24, 1992. Its creator was a Russian and Soviet talented sculptor Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Klykov. At the feet of two brothers - Cyril and Methodius, who created the Slavic alphabet, - the Unquenchable Lampada burns.

On Slavianskaya Square not far from the square is the Orthodox Church of All Saints on Kulishki. Style - Moscow baroque. It was first built in the 14th century, after being rebuilt twice: in the middle of the 15th century and at the end of the 17th century.
