Electric brushcutters. How to choose and use safely?
There are three main types of brush cutters, depending on their power source:
- petrol;
- brushcutters electric;
- Wireless.
Electric bush cutters
This type of equipment has a power cord. Therefore, you can only use it close to a power outlet or extension cord. These brush cutters are quite light and easy to use, they are suitable for most small and medium sized gardens. Electric brush blowers cause the greatest concern for most people due to the location of the power cord next to the blades. Therefore, you must use a special protective device that can protect you from accidental damage to the power cord.
Cordless shears have a battery that can be removed and recharged indoors. They are just as easy to use as wire electric bush cutters, but they have one important and indisputable advantage - you do not have to worry about having a cable and getting stuck. The latest tests showed that most of the models of wireless brush cutters can work more than 20 minutes on one charge, and some more than an hour. Wireless brush cutters have blades up to 52 cm in length with narrowly spaced teeth, so they are ideal for regular pruning hedges.
Gasoline brushcutter
Gasoline brushcutters, in comparison with the previous species, are large and heavy machines. They will be most useful if you have a large or overgrown hedge that is far from the power source. But, like all gasoline vehicles, they are noisy, emit exhaust fumes and can be tedious to use for a long time.
Electric brushcutter: how to choose
If you decide to opt for electrical devices, special attention should be paid to the length of the cable. This is especially important if the working area is far from the power source.
Electric brush cutters must have a residual current device (RCD) to protect the cable and check it on a regular basis.
How is it safe to use hedge scissors?
This question bothers most people. The safety of the process can be increased by switching to wireless garden shears. If you chose electric brush cutters, then:
- Always use a residual current device (RCD) of the plug or adapter to protect against electric shock if you accidentally cut the cable.
- Pull the cable over your shoulder - so it will hang behind you, or attach it to your belt.
- Make sure that your extension cord is sufficient to complete the job without stretching the wire.
Electric trimmer: additional safety measures
- Wear safety goggles or a mask to protect your eyes from flying debris.
- If you have small children, unplug the trimmer from the mains or remove the battery from the wireless trimmer if you leave it unattended for any time.
- When working, it is advisable to use durable gloves and boots with a good outsole of dense material.
