The best sorts of cucumbers for greenhouses and open ground

For a long time the breeders have been engaged in varieties of cucumbers, achieving not only resistance to diseases and colds, but also improving taste. The main achievement of breeding can be called the fact that most of the new hybrids got rid of the usual cucumber bitterness, and besides the yield increased significantly.

Today, there are a lot of hybrids and varieties on the market, and a beginning vegetable grower is difficult to understand. But the first thing to begin with is to decide how you will grow cucumbers, because it is in this regard that many beginners make mistakes. There are two main ways to grow this vegetable: open and closed ground. And for each of them there are their best varieties of cucumbers. In addition, there are varieties suitable only for salads, and use them in salting is not recommended. Consider what some new varieties are intended for and, of course, do not miss the best of the past.

The best sorts of cucumbers for greenhouses

For growing in a greenhouse, give preference to hybrids that do not need formation and have shortened side lashes. In other words, you do not need to pinch the ends of the lashes so that there is no thickening. In this respect, the best self-pollinating hybrid is Bouquet, it is already yielding in the first month of fruiting. The same properties have a Temp hybrid.

There are early hybrids. They are especially interesting to the inhabitants of the north-western part of our country, as they have fruit, even in low light and low temperatures. This includes the hybrids of Sarov, Suomi and Valaam. They have a quick yield of crops, side shoots are shortened, but they have bouquet fruiting. That is, in each leaf passe, several cucumbers are formed at once.

If you need a long fruiting, then buy such hybrids as Pike, Chic and Okhotny Ryad. Here the varieties of the Zabiyaka, Uglich and Zadavaka, as I want, are also suitable. By the way, most of them have beam fruiting.

Self-pollinating (the correct name is "parthenocarpic") hybrids:

  1. Spring whim - requires formation, but is adapted to low temperatures.
  2. Emerald flow - requires formation, but shade-tolerant, cold-resistant and at the same time with early and friendly fruit bearing.

There are new varieties that are pollinated by bees, but are grown in greenhouses: Mikron, Everest, Nina, Eurydice. For salted cucumbers are: Sunny, Tereshechka, Brook.

The best sorts of cucumbers for covering soil: Valdai, Kaskader, Vyatsky, Dubler, Kossinsky. Here it is meant that at night the plants are sheltered, and in the daytime the shelter is removed.

Cucumber seeds for open ground

What is good for growing outdoors is that you do not need to mess around with plants as much as in a greenhouse. Although its shortcomings are, for example, an excess of atmospheric precipitation leads to diseases. The best cucumbers for open ground are Novgorod, Eliseevsky, Archangel, Leader, Good, Twixie. Here the varieties Pososhok, Paratunka, Gypsy, Passat, Uhazher and Mikhalych are also included. There is a new cucumber Advance - this is a bee polluted variety, but here for salting it will not do. A hybrid Svyatoslav just refers to salting.

I would also like to mention varieties that are universal. They can be grown both in the closed and open ground - it's Borovichok, Quadrille, Bobrik, Kliss and Twixie.

As you can see, there is something to choose from, and this is not a complete list. And which of them are the best varieties of cucumbers, you can find out only by trial. Every vegetable grower has his own preferences and his proven method of growing.
