Not far from the capital, if you move from it in the northern direction, is located Klyazminskoe reservoir - one of the largest artificial reservoirs of the Moscow Region. It exists in the current coastal outlines since 1937 and was formed as a result of the construction of the Pirogov hydroelectric complex on the Klyazma River. This is part of the general hydraulic system of the Moscow Canal, stretching across Mytishchi and Khimki districts. The Klyazma Reservoir was designed to provide sustainable water supply to Moscow, as well as to maintain a water level acceptable to navigation in the Moscow River. In addition, the reservoir has some hydropower potential, the water reserve in it ensures the functioning of the Shodnenskaya hydroelectric power station and several local hydro power stations.

From the Moscow ring road a reservoir separates the distance of only five kilometers along the Dmitrovskoye highway. It is through the Moscow Ring Road that it is easiest to get there from different parts of Moscow. The coastline has many convenient approaches to it throughout its entire length. Collapse to the reservoir can be in many places both from Dmitrovsky and Ostashkovsky Highways.
