What is cut laminate at home?

Laminated panels allow you to create an original look of the floor in any room. In the market, the lamellas are presented with various patterns that imitate not only the traditional texture of wood, but also stone, metal and leather. That is, in terms of stylistic diversity, this material is superior even to natural parquet. It would seem, and in terms of laying lamellas require much less effort, but it is not. A simple type of installation can become more complicated if nonstandard configurations of flooring occur. In such cases, the question arises as to what the laminate is cutting. Fortunately, no specialized tool is required to solve this problem. You can limit yourself to the usual inventory, which certainly will be found in the household of many home masters.

Hacksaw as the most affordable option

If the work is not enough, and we are not going to get an accurate result of cutting, we can limit ourselves to using the simplest tool - a hacksaw. In the process of cutting the main thing is, if possible, to ensure the integrity and smoothness of the edge, and also to ensure the correctness of the cutting line. In this case, much will depend on the quality and sharpness of the saw itself. But this option is not suitable, if there is a question about what the laminate is cutting in large quantities. Technically, the hacksaw handles wood chip materials efficiently, including laminated panels. And with its help it is quite possible to cope with a whole batch of material even alone. But the problem is that maintaining a more or less decent cut quality throughout the process will be very difficult.

Cutting Bulgarian

We can say that this is the opposite of the previous instrument. If the angle grinder is equipped with a qualitative cutting circle, you can get not only a productive but also a neat assistant. But it is not recommended to cut a laminate with a Bulgarian without experience. Nothing is particularly difficult to handle with the USM, but at least before the work is to be trained on the rough panels. As for the rigging itself, experienced parquet designers recommend using a circle with 48 teeth of 160 mm format. This cutter will perform serial cutting, which is useful not only as a way to save time, but also in terms of maintaining smooth edges - at least, the cleanliness of the cut will be ensured in the lamellas placed in the middle of the disclosed lot. By the way, to get a 100% neat cut, you can install the same roughing elements in place of the end panels.

Open with an electric jigsaw

If, with an angle grinding machine, you still have to resort to some tricks to achieve the most pure result, in the case of an electric jig saw it is not necessary. Even when working with piece cutting, this tool will achieve impressive results. The example of work with a jig saw also shows the depth of the question as to what the laminate is cutting if it is necessary to obtain a figured cut. Of course, doing straight sawing is the most common operation. But also non-standard laying, assuming installation with curved panels, is practiced. Another thing is that the implementation of this method can be trusted by professional parquet makers. The advantage of the electric jigsaw is that a suitable model, even in the hands of a beginner in such works, can provide a very decent result. To do this, you must initially purchase a multifunctional device, the design and saw blade of which allow for the realization of a figured cut.

Using a circular saw for cutting

The advantages of this tool include high cutting speed and the ability to work with several panels at the same time. It has already been noted that Bulgarian is a similar productivity, but there are also serious features of the circular. Its power in terms of sawing is much higher, so if you are thinking about how it is better to cut laminate from commercial or semi-commercial series, then this method is better not to be found. Such panels are characterized by high strength, hardness and rigidity. Therefore, not even a jigsaw or a hacksaw will cope with this task even in piece-processing. The angle grinder will undoubtedly perform party cutting, but not as quickly and qualitatively as a circular saw.

Guillotine cutting for laminate

This method can be called optimal for the average domestic craftsman, who plans to refine one or several rooms in the house with laminate flooring. Guillotine for lamellas is a special cutter, the design of which is designed not only to directly provide effective mechanical impact on the material, but also the user's convenience. To understand what a laminate is cut in a domestic environment, it is first of all worth considering this tool. Unlike the hacksaw, it performs the operation faster and more accurately, and compared to powerful bulgarians and circular machines it costs much less and requires an order of less trouble in the maintenance.

Features of cutting vinyl laminate

If the commercial panels are characterized by high strength, the vinyl material, on the contrary, is made with the expectation of creating an original decorative effect. In addition, vinyl simplifies the cleaning of the floor, for which it is appreciated by housewives. Such slats are also convenient in terms of cutting. As a rule, it is a relatively soft material that can be opened with a hand tool. So, what to cut vinyl laminate? It is probably not worth using these tools. It is more expedient to use a clerical knife, which has a high cutting ability, almost like a blade. Soft vinyl panels are sensitive to mechanical influences, so a sharp knife will be a better choice than a rough angle grinder or hacksaw.

How to choose the best tool?

To be guided in the choice stands on two groups of factors. First, the characteristics of the material, the conditions of installation and the amount of work. Secondly, the parameters of the instrument itself. For example, what to cut a laminate in house conditions? Armed with productive electrical equipment in this case there is no sense, since a small volume of panels for household styling will qualitatively handle the guillotine with a hacksaw. If the plans for the design of a huge office space with a wear-resistant laminate model, then a circular saw or a Bulgarian will be a good choice.

How correctly to cut a laminate?

Even if the instrument was correctly chosen for specific tasks, this does not mean that a qualitative result has been determined. Much depends on the technique of cutting. First of all, the surface of the lamellas is cleaned of dirt and dust, and the tool prepares to work. It is especially important to choose the appropriate equipment for the angle grinder and circular saw. The workflow itself must be performed smoothly, so that the edge is preserved in a proper aesthetic state. In this case, each panel during the cutting process must be securely fixed, otherwise there will be a risk of getting an uneven cutting.
