Monastir Airport - the youngest, but already quite popular air gate of Tunisia

The international airport of Monastir in Tunisia is named after the former president of the state, Habib Bourguiba. This is due to the fact that he was born directly in this city. The airport is served by civil aviation of Tunisia (TAV) and the Airport Airports Authority (OACA).

History

Monastir Airport is relatively young relative to other air gates of Tunisia. During the battles of the period 1939-1946. On this place was a military airfield. During the North African campaign, the 81st Fighter Unit of the US Air Force was stationed here. Later, the place was forgotten and remembered only at the beginning of the XXI century. So, in June 2004, the Tunisian government decided to create a new air terminal on the territory of the former airfield.

Seven airlines participated in the tender. The winner was TAV, which to this day serves the airport Monastir. In January 2008, the builders started work. For a record 823 days it was completed. And already in November 2009 the new air gates of the country took the first passengers.
