We make a metal staircase to the second floor. Making a metal ladder with your own hands

To weld a metal staircase to the second floor means to get almost eternal and at the same time the most durable and aesthetic design. You can try it yourself if you want. There are several varieties of such stairs. Some of them are simple to manufacture, welding others requires certain skills. Of course, for the manufacture of such a construction will require special equipment.

Open and closed structures

The frame of the metal ladder can be both closed and open. In the first case, the entire structure is subsequently closed with a finishing material. That is, the stairs are covered with gypsum and wood. For the manufacture of such a frame, it is allowed to use not very attractive in appearance cheap channel bars and corners.

In order to make a framework of an open type, it will be necessary to purchase metal coated with enamel. All welding operations are carried out with the utmost care. After all, on an open frame, which in this case becomes part of the interior, there should be no visible seams. But these metal staircases look (the photo is presented below) just superb.

Marching stairs

The staircase is considered to be the most convenient option. Everyone is familiar with this construction. It is these stairs that are installed in the entrances of high-rise buildings. Of course, such a design can be made of metal. There are only three main types of flight stairs: on strings, on strings and on supports.

Stairs on the strings

A characteristic feature of stairs on the strings is that the steps on the side are not visible in them. Manufacturing of metal ladders of this variety is a simple process. In this case, the supports under the steps are simply attached to the inner side of the main beams.

Stairs on the Kosaur

When making staircases on the strips to the pre-defined channels (serving as support beams), the corners under the steps are welded from above. Thus, a very reliable construction is obtained. You can weld a metal staircase to the second floor, both on two Kosowrs, and on one. In the latter case, the supporting beam-channel is only one, and it is installed in the middle of the ladder march. This design looks very light and elegant and usually does not require the presence of risers.

Stairs on supports

Metal stairs to the second floor of this variety in homes are not used too often. The fact of the matter is that a lot of metal is needed to make it. The steps and steps of such a ladder are attached to horizontal supports starting from the floor itself.

Spiral staircases

Screw staircases are most often used where the size of the room does not allow the installation of the march. They look very interesting, but in operation are not too convenient and less safe. In this case, the whole construction is built around one horizontal support tube.

Making stairs on the strings

So, how to make a metal staircase to the second floor? First of all, it is necessary to prepare the source material. To make a design on the strings, you will need:

  1. The channel section is 150x200 mm with a wall thickness of 8 mm.
  2. Corner steel 45x45 mm.
  3. Welding machine.
  4. Electrodes.
  5. Grinding welding disks.
  6. Primer for metal.

The channel bars are attached to the load-bearing concrete beam from above and to the plate from below parallel to each other. Optimal is the angle of the stairs at 20-45 degrees. When installing the channels, this must be taken into account.

Next, the inner sides of the resulting supports should be welded pieces of metal corner under the step. You should definitely use the level. It is also important to remember that the step height should not be more than 18 cm. The optimal width is 30 cm. If you observe this condition, you will get a very comfortable metal ladder. It is not too difficult to build such a structure.

Manufacture of staircases on kosuroh

For the manufacture of staircases on kosuroh need the same material as for the design on the strings. In this case, also the carrier channels are pre-installed. Next, you need to make support for the stairs. Make them from a corner that needs to be bent at an angle of ninety degrees. The resulting support-kerchiefs are welded to the channels from above or from the inside, carefully following their horizontality. In the end, a very reliable metal ladder is obtained. With their own hands, this design is somewhat more difficult to make than the version on the strings.

There is also another way of installing supports under the step. In this case, struts on the channel are welded on top, the height of which is equal to the height of the step. At installation use a level, achieving strict verticality of elements. Separately from the corner, the frame under the steps is welded. The resulting quadrangular frames on one side are welded to the posts, and on the other side to the channels.

If one of the channels is adjacent to the wall, it makes sense to additionally attach it to it with anchors. After the frame is completely welded, all its elements must be covered with a primer and painted with two layers of paint.

What can be made steps

Metal steps for stairs should be made of a material with a thickness of at least 3 mm. It is best if their surface is corrugated at the same time. You can also cover such steps with anti-slip material from above. For their attachment to the supports using self-tapping screws for metal, which must be twisted from below.

Metal steps are used in residential premises quite rarely. After all, the material is quite cold. And walking on it, say, barefoot will not be too pleasant. Therefore, most often a metal staircase with wooden steps is installed in the houses. The tree is attached to the frame in this case also using self-tapping screws.

How to make handrails

The enclosure for the metal ladder can be made using reinforcing bars, tubes or metal. To the bearing channel, the handrails can be attached in three ways: by bolts, by welding or in the form of an entire structure. For handrails it is possible to take pipes with a diameter of 35-80 mm. They are welded to the upper ends of the pre-fixed racks. To ensure that the surface of the handrail is pleasant to the touch, they can be covered with a plastic pipe, cutting it first along.

How to apply for a ready ladder

After the frame is welded and the steps and handrails are installed, you can proceed to the final design of the staircase. When welding structural elements, the seams should be placed inside. In this case, they will not interfere with the finish skin. The ladder is usually trimmed with wood or plasterboard. When choosing a material, they are guided first and foremost by a common style solution of the interior.

The material is cut in accordance with the structural features of the ladder. The panel is fastened to screws or screws in such a way that there are no cracks in the junctions.

A metal ladder with its own hands is made without special difficulties. But only if you have the basic skills of welding. Unskilful actions can lead to damage to the frame. As a result, you will have to redo all the work again, or the staircase will turn out to be unsafe in operation. In the event that you are not confident in your abilities, it makes sense to still spend money by contacting specialists.
