Warming of the log house outside: technology and insulation features

Today, many of us dream of living in our own beautiful house. Just so that the pastime in it was as comfortable as possible, it should be well arranged. The comfort of living in any house depends on the quality of the thermal insulation. Especially it concerns buildings from a wooden beam. However, in order to warm the log house from the outside, made by hand, it turned out to be qualitative, it is necessary to take into account the features of the tree. If this is not done, then the insulation and the walls will not last long. In addition, in the process of work, it is necessary to adhere to a specific instruction and observe safety procedures.

General information about insulation

To achieve a good thermal insulation of a wooden house, it is necessary to take into account two features of wood as a building material. Firstly, the tree has a high vapor permeability, and secondly, it is prone to the development of fungi and mold. In simple terms, the tree absorbs moisture very well, which increases the loss of heat. Thus, when arranging the insulation of the log house from the outside with your own hands, you should choose materials that will protect the wood well from moisture, so that it does not rot. Another important nuance is the ventilation gap, which must be between the insulation layer and the wall. And to prevent the development of fungus and mold, the tree is soaked with special antiseptics.

Types of insulation

The warming of a log house outside, the technology of which requires compliance with certain instructions, is a rather laborious process. When insulating the inside insulation material is laid in the room, after which it is covered with any finishing material. With external insulation all happens the other way around.

Warming inside the house is used in those cases when it is necessary to preserve the natural appearance of the building, for example, if the house is erected from a log house.

However, this technology has several drawbacks:

  • Reduction of free space inside rooms;
  • Constant dampness in the room;
  • A strong temperature difference inside the house and outside leads to the fact that the tree very quickly spoils.

Therefore, in most cases, the insulation of the log house outside the siding is used.

The device of external warming

To minimize the loss of heat through the walls and to exclude the possibility of the appearance of fungus, when warming the facade of the house it is very important that the wall not only prevent the exit of heat, but also breathe.

For this, the insulation is carried out according to the principle of "puff cake", which consists of the following components:

  • bearing wall;
  • Framework;
  • A layer of a heater;
  • Membrane film, protecting the wall from the wind;
  • Crate for finishing materials;
  • siding.

With this warming of the house, the walls breathe, they drain condensate from the wooden frame, which not only is responsible for fixing the finishing materials, but also creates an air cushion. In addition, the condensate can not disappear by itself, so between the heater and the wall should be provided a layer of vapor barrier, which will protect the heater from moisture and prevent its spoilage.

Types of insulation materials

To date, the insulation of the log house outside, from the inside is carried out on a similar principle, can be performed with the help of the following materials:

  • Mineral wool;
  • Polystyrene foam;
  • Extruded polystyrene foam;
  • Ecowools.

Each of the materials has certain advantages and disadvantages, so when buying it, you should take into account all the features of each type of insulation. You can buy everything necessary for warming the house in specialized shops.

External insulation of a wooden house: what material is better to choose?

Before you start the construction of insulation at home, you need to purchase the right material. Very common is the insulation of the log house outside the ecowool. It consists of a set of fibers that are produced as a result of the melting of rocks. Excellent thermal insulation qualities of ecowools are due to the fact that between the fibers there is air, which contributes to better preservation of heat.

In addition, the insulation also has the following advantages:

  • Simplicity of installation;
  • Low cost;
  • High resistance to ignition;
  • Good vapor permeability;
  • Excellent sound and heat insulation characteristics.

If you decided to make an external thermal insulation with this material, you should take into account the fact that the insulation of the log house outside the wool under the siding should provide wind protection, as this heater absorbs moisture very well, which significantly reduces the performance of the ecowool.

Other types of insulation, which can be used to create a thermal insulation of the house from a wooden beam, are polystyrene and extruded polystyrene foam. Both materials belong to the category of polymers consisting of numerous cells glued together, between which there are pores. It is thanks to the voids and excellent thermal insulation is achieved. It should be noted that both materials are very similar and are manufactured using reliable technology, however, expanded polystyrene has a higher strength.

Nevertheless, most professionals recommend using log house insulation from the outside with mineral wool, since the foam and its analogs have very poor vapor permeability. Consequently, between the heater and the wall, condensate accumulates, which creates ideal conditions for the development of fungus, mold and harmful microorganisms.

External thermal insulation with mineral wool

Mineral wool because of its availability and fairly good characteristics is most often used for outdoor insulation of houses from a wooden beam or log house. However, it is very important to understand how much material is required for this. To do this, calculate the total area to be insulated.

In order not to make mistakes in calculations, you can follow the following algorithm:

  1. The height of the ceiling in each room is measured.
  2. The total perimeter of all rooms is measured.
  3. The obtained measurements are multiplied for each individual room, after which the area is cut off from the obtained figure, and then the area of the pediments is added, which can be calculated using the mathematical formula for determining the area of the triangle.
  4. Determine the material from which manufacturer you will use. Divide the total area of the mineral wool by the area of each slab. In this case, it is very important to provide a small reserve, which will be necessary to eliminate the error in the mineral cut. The resulting figure and will denote the amount of mineral wool, which consists of each plate for warming the log house outside.

The amount of material depends on the thickness of the insulation layer. For regions with a warm climate, the insulation can be laid with a layer thickness of 50 millimeters, and for areas with very cold winters - 150 mm. If for some reason the mineral wool can not be laid in one layer, then in this case, two layers can be made.

What tools will be required?

To make the thermal insulation of a wooden house, in addition to the warmest material, a certain set of tools will be required. To build a frame, you need an electric jig saw or a Bulgarian to cut a wooden beam. It is important to understand that with the Bulgarian work will go much faster, but this tool will damage the anti-corrosion coating, which will negatively affect the longevity of the material, and the insulation of the walls of the log house outside will not last for long. If the frame is made of metal profile, then in this case you need scissors for metal.

In addition, it is necessary to tighten something with self-tapping screws. With this task, a screwdriver with a set of attachments can perfectly handle it. It is best to choose a tool with an autonomous power source, since you will not be tied to an outlet and will be able to perform work in any part of the house. Since the insulation of the log house outside is a very laborious and long process, it will not be superfluous to acquire an additional battery. So you can work with the instrument and simultaneously charge the battery.

When creating a wooden frame, you need to customize its individual elements. This is done with a rubber or wooden hammer. A sharp knife for cutting mineral wool will also be needed.

As mentioned earlier, the insulation of the log house outside should provide a windproof layer. It is created with the help of a special film, which is fixed to the wooden frame with metal staples. This requires a construction stapler.

To ensure that the wall is perfectly flat after the completion of all work, the arrangement of thermal insulation must be performed using a level, a tape measure and a plumb. Without these tools, it is simply impossible to do everything qualitatively.

Stacking insulation on a wooden frame

Most often, when equipping the insulation of the house, the insulation is laid on a wooden frame. In this case, the insulation of the log house from the outside is carried out in a certain sequence.

  1. The wall is being prepared. From it, all protruding elements are removed, after which the tree is treated with special antiseptic means. Particular attention in this case should be given to hard-to-reach places, because it is in them most often develops fungus and microorganisms.
  2. A wooden frame is being created. It is better for him to use bars measuring 30x30 millimeters. Horizontal and vertical elements are fastened together with galvanized self-tapping screws, which are highly resistant to corrosion. It should be noted that the distance between the beams should be 5 mm less than the size of each plate of insulation material. This is very important, because after laying the mineral wool should not be any gaps and gaps. Otherwise, the insulation will be of poor quality, there will be a loss of heat. Belt dowels are used to fix the material.
  3. The second layer of insulation is being laid. All works are performed in the same way as described earlier.
  4. When the thermal insulation layer is completely finished, it is possible to start laying the windproof membrane. Each subsequent strip of film should be laid with an overlap of 10 centimeters on the previous strip. The membrane is attached to the frame by means of a construction stapler and metal staples. For protection to be of high quality and reliability, the membrane joints must necessarily be glued with special construction tape.
  5. Over the windscreen on the wooden frame are attached rails, which will be attached to the elements of the siding.
  6. At the final stage, facing works are performed.

On this, the insulation of the log house outside can be considered complete.

Stacking insulation on brackets

The heater can be stacked not only on the wooden frame, but also on the brackets. The process of performing the work in this case must take place in a certain sequence.

  1. The outer side of the walls is treated with an antiseptic.
  2. On the facade of the building are mounted metal brackets, at a distance that will be between the individual elements of the crate.
  3. The mineral wool is laid. To do this, the heater is simply mounted on the brackets and fixed with plate dowels.
  4. On top of the mineral wool, the windproof film is laid and fixed.
  5. A metal crate is created on which vinyl panels are mounted.

If you strictly follow the above instructions, you will get a high-quality and long-lasting thermal insulation.

Conclusion

Regardless of how the insulation of the log house was made from outside - clay, sawdust, chips or mineral wool, when working with any material it is very important to adhere to the rules of working with it, and also to observe the installation technology. Nevertheless, the optimal option as a heater is mineral wool, because it has excellent performance characteristics and low price.

Regardless of the insulation chosen, it is recommended that the insulation be arranged in the warm season so that the tree is dry. In addition, before laying insulation material, it is necessary to perform wall treatment with antiseptic, which will protect them from spoilage and prevent the formation of fungus, mold, rot and the appearance of various microorganisms and rodents. Only in this way you can create a thermal insulation for centuries, which will not have to be changed after only a few years.
