Two-level ceiling - an interesting solution for your home

Today, two-level ceilings are gaining popularity among designers and builders. Indeed, they allow you to create an original in shape and coloring design on the ceiling, from geometric figures to the starry sky.

Perhaps someone believes that a two-level ceiling is a trend of fashion, excess and that soon the demand for them will drop significantly. Unfortunately, this person is largely mistaken in his assumptions. The ceiling of two levels is not only a beautiful, but also a fairly functional structure that allows solving many problems with the location of light sources, etc.

First of all, such a hinged design allows you to hide any shortcomings on the main ceiling, which are difficult to hide in any other way. In particular, this includes pipes, ledges, cables, traces of stucco molding, height differences. Between the levels, you can also set a variety of "stuffing": fixtures with transformers and wires, audio speakers, CCTV cameras, ventilation boxes, security systems.

Also, a two-level ceiling perfectly allows zoning the room. If you want to make in your apartment a combined kitchen with a living room or hallway-hall, then different levels of stretch or gypsum cardboard ceiling - this is the best way to visually distinguish zones. Moreover, the ceiling levels allow you to advantageously beat the space. For example, a stretch ceiling of two or more levels makes it possible to visually expand a narrow room, to shorten too long its parts. He gives life to even the most desolate and spacious hall. Simply put, such a ceiling is a powerful aesthetic factor.

You can arrange a two-level ceiling in several different ways:

  • Using a combination of gypsum and stretch ceiling fabric;
  • Having mounted a stretched ceiling on the preliminary prepared system of profiles-baguettes;
  • Using plasterboard sheets.

Very popular are the French stretch ceilings, as their special plasticity allows not only to create beautiful curves at different angles, but also to build arches, tents, cones, domed vaults and undulating structures.

A two-level ceiling can be made independently. To do this, it is necessary to begin by arranging the box around the perimeter of the room. It will be illuminated. In the central part of the ceiling, you can lay plasterboard, and you can even out everything with putty and plaster.

It should be borne in mind that quite often in the apartments joints of slabs are visible, so the option with plaster is not entirely appropriate. Choosing the same plasterboard, it is necessary to understand that the ceiling level will drop by 15 centimeters to 15. The first level will be located 5-6 centimeters below the ceiling, and the second will drop another 10 centimeters. Of course, the distance can be slightly reduced, but then there will be problems with the installation of lighting.

Alternatively, you can make a two-level stretch ceiling, then the loss in height will be minimal.

If you decide to plaster the center of your ceiling, then you need to do this first, before installing the box around the perimeter of the room. If you want to get a smooth and beautiful ceiling, then first of all it is necessary to tackle the box, to which then the central part will be attached. Carefully ensure that all parts are securely fastened together, otherwise sooner or later the heavy plasterboard sheets will simply tear off the fastenings and cause irreparable damage to the property.

When the box is fully ready, it is necessary to make a fork of electricity to future lighting points. Drywall sheets are previously cut according to the previously developed sketch and fixed to the profile of the box with screws.

When the ceiling is fully mounted, it is necessary to connect the lighting and gently plaster the surface.

Now you know how to make a two-level ceiling from plasterboard and with a little inspiration and investment of forces you can create a true masterpiece in your apartment!
