A starter is an important mechanism for every car. This device is represented as a four-pole, four-brush DC motor. There is a starter on the right side of the cylinder block and it is fixed to the clutch housing by bolts.

The starter consists of the following parts:

Starter relay value

The traction relay of the starter is responsible for putting the drive gear of this device into engagement, and also for closing the stator power circuit and armature windings. In the cover of the relay there are bolts with contacts. One bolt is connected to the positive terminal of the battery, and the other to the stator and relay windings.

In the process of turning the ignition key, the output of this cover of the starter relay relay is voltage, forming a magnetic field. Due to this, the armature is retracted, and the contact bolts are closed, affecting the drive arm. Then, during the interaction of magnetic fields, the starter and hub anchors begin to rotate, and the clutch rollers are wedged. The resulting torque is transmitted by means of the coupling itself and the drive gear to the flywheel ring. Due to exceeding the speed of the gears above the shaft of the starter armature, the clutch rollers are wedged, the torque is not transmitted to the starter armature shaft.

If you return the key to the first position, then the power circuit of the winding of the starter traction relay and the contacts will open. Due to this, the drive gear is disengaged.

How to check the starter?

The device can also be tested without a stand. For this procedure you need a mite and a multimeter. First you need to put the multimeter in the voltage measurement mode on the terminals of the power supply. Thus the battery should be charged on 100% with density 1,28. Then you need:

  1. View the voltage reduction when the headlights and dimensions are switched on. With normal battery performance, this indicator will drop to 12.4-12.5 volts.
  2. Scrolling the starter. To do this, you will need an assistant who will include a starter on the command. When scrolling, the voltage on the battery should be at least 10.5 volts. If there is a sluggish rotation at the indicated voltage drops, then this indicator should be checked on the wires going from the engine case to the negative of the battery. Similar actions are carried out with respect to the plus wire.

It should be noted that starters with a planetary gearbox with unscrewed candles, as well as starters without a reducer consume 20-30% less. If the cause is internal, especially if it is a starter relay, then this device should be disassembled in order to identify the existing defects. This procedure is better to entrust to specialized centers, since often self-disassembly of the starter leads to its complete replacement. Checking the starter can be carried out in garage conditions, since this process does not require special tools.
