The Laurentian Chronicle is the most important historical source

At the end of the fourteenth - at the beginning of the fifteenth century on the territory of modern Russia the chronicle is developing very rapidly. This time is dated numerous vaults, compiled by the most intelligent people of that period. Authors of these works collect, translate and edit existing annals, make their edits and thoughts.

By tradition, each new book chronicle in the beginning had a list of the life of Kievan Rus. Often the authors referred to the "Tale of Bygone Years" or quoted some excerpts from it. Therefore, with each new vault, an unbroken chain of tales of the mother of Russian cities continued. Chroniclers turned their attention not only to the golden-domed Kiev, but also to other large cities: Suzdal, Ryazan, Novgorod, Moscow, Vladimir.

An important document, which depicts the life of the ancient world, is the Laurentian Chronicle. It is named after Lavrenty, a monk who along with his assistants wrote it in 1377. The place of the creation of the vault is the Suzdal-Nizhegorodsky principality, as evidenced by the corresponding inscription on the pages of the chronicle. Thus, the first Russian chronicle is a copy of the previous lost arch and contains data on events until 1305.

The Laurentian Chronicle begins with the words of "The Tale of Bygone Years", in which the greatness of Rus is glorified. Also included in the archives is the "Instruction" of the Kiev prince Vladimir Monomakh, who was famous for his wisdom and discretion. In it, the prince calls on his compatriots to end the quarrels, forget their grievances and stand together for a just cause. Then the Laurentian chronicle sadly tells of the hard struggle of the Russian people with the Mongol-Tatars, the painful death of its princes and the heroism of ordinary people.

This chronicle was written on the eve of the memorable Kulikovo battle. Therefore, it contains the people's aspirations for victory over the invaders, a call for unity. Between the lines there is an aggravation of relations between the Golden Horde and Moscow. Therefore, we can safely say that this work was aimed at raising the patriotic spirit of the people.

The Laurentian Chronicle represents the oldest Russian memorandum of writing. The date indicated by the author - 1377 according to the Old Russian calendar, is calculated as 6885 from the creation of the world. For the most part, she draws a mill of things in Vladimir-Suzdal Russia 1164-1304. But it also contains news about the southern principalities of the country.

Ancient chronicle always attracted the attention of historians, culturologists and other scientists who are interested in antiquity. Of course, the original is not available to the general public - it is carefully stored in the archives of the Russian National Library, which is in St. Petersburg. Carefully restored parchment is removed several times a year for examination and verification.

Not so long ago the site of the presidential library . Boris Yeltsin put out a digital scan of the annals so that anyone could see this most important historical document. Each person can not only try to read the text in Slavic language, but also to get acquainted with its contents in the modern Russian dialect.
