Roof Construction

It is known that gradually any person gets used to the environment and ceases to notice the characteristics of the external world. This applies to homes. For example, if a resident of the private sector is asked about the construction of the roof of his neighbor's house , not everyone can answer. So let's look at the main existing types - this will allow a new look at the surrounding buildings.

The roof is the head

The erection of any building begins with a foundation. Any flaws - and do not escape the cracks on the walls. But no less important is the design of the roof, because it is this part that protects the whole structure from destruction due to the effects of atmospheric precipitation. Driving through the villages, you can see a lot of abandoned houses: those who have the roof remained unharmed, but if the locals managed to dismantle it, the house collapses in a few years. And regardless of the quality of the walls and foundation.

In modern construction, the roof structure can be different - it all depends on the owner's preferences and some design features. For example, no one will arrange a flat roof in a church building. A gable will look ridiculous in a large modern house. It is important to understand that there are no bad or good roofs (in terms of design).

Varieties

Gable roof construction is one of the simplest, so it can be found on many homes. It represents two inclined planes, one side supported by walls and converging at the top - a kind of triangle in section. The second name is gable.

A variety of gable construction is hip. Due to the fact that the shape of the two planes is trapezoidal from the sides and triangular from the ends (the number of skates is doubled), it is able to withstand stronger winds. The disadvantages include the need to build a fairly complex design of rafters. In addition, there is less free space under such a roof.

If it is necessary to protect the gables on the construction, a semi-velvary version of the gable roof can be built. At the junction of the first and second floors (or attic space), a trapezoidal projection is installed, covering both the pediments and the walls, and then - two converging planes. This solution is typical for small-sized houses.

No less interesting is the flat roof. This kind of variety can be found on multi-storey houses of Soviet times. In residential private buildings it is rarely used, as it requires reinforcement of the entire roof system and ideal waterproofing. Note that the laying of a soft roof of separate components (bitumen shingles) on such a roof is not recommended.

But if the plane is executed with a bias in any direction, then this problem can be solved. Accordingly, such a roof is called a single-pitched roof (one inclined plane). Usually it is mounted on garages, baths, outbuildings.

But the design of the attic roof makes it possible to arrange a full-fledged living space in the under-roof space. Externally, this solution represents two slope planes, located in the upper part of the roof. Then from their ends down to the level of the walls the steeply falling planes continue, forming a kind of replacement for the walls of such a second floor. When erecting, taking into account the high wind load, it is necessary to take care of a quality rafter system. In addition, it is absolutely necessary to carefully install the layers of heat and waterproofing.

There are many different types of roofs, before the final choice in favor of one or another you need to think about the purpose of the attic space, assess the future appearance of the house, take into account the climatic features.
