The Problem of Repentance: Arguments from Literature

The requirements for writing for the USE have changed many times in recent years, but one thing remained unchanged - the need to prove the truth of their judgments. And for this you need to choose the right arguments.

The problem of repentance will interest us first. In this article, we will present several variants of arguments selected from the school literature list. From it you can choose the ones that are best suited for your work.

What are the arguments for?

When writing a composition for part C, you need to express your opinion on the topic. But your thesis needs proof. That is, it is necessary not only to express its position, but also to confirm it.

Very often in the exams there is a problem of repentance, the arguments for it are quite easy to pick up if the student is well acquainted with the school literary program. However, not everyone can immediately recall the right work, so it's better to choose several arguments in advance on the most common topics.

What are the arguments

In order to fully reveal the problem of repentance, the arguments should be selected based on the basic requirements of the USE on the Russian language. According to them, all the evidence is divided into three types:

  • Personal experience, that is, facts taken from my life. They do not need to be reliable, since no one will check to see if this actually happened.
  • Information that was received by the student from the school curriculum. For example, from the lessons of geography, history, etc.
  • Literary arguments, which will interest us in the first place. This is the reader's experience, which the examiner must acquire during the training.

Arguments from literature

So, we are interested in the problem of repentance. Arguments from the literature will be needed if you want to get a high score for the essay. At the same time, choosing arguments, priority should be given to those works that are part of the school curriculum or are considered classics. Do not take the texts of little-known authors or popular literature (fantasy, detectives, etc.), as they may not be familiar to the examiner. Therefore, you need to refresh the memory of the main works that were studied in the school years. Usually in a novel or a story, you can find examples of almost all topics found in the USE. The optimal option will immediately select several works that you are well acquainted with. So, let's analyze the classics, in which the problem of repentance rises.

"The Captain's Daughter" (Pushkin)

In Russian literature, the problem of repentance is very common. The arguments are therefore quite easy to find. Let's start with the most famous of our writer AS Pushkin and his novel "The Captain's Daughter".

In the center of the work is the love of the protagonist Petr Grinev. This feeling is broad and multifaceted, like life. We are interested in this feeling that it was thanks to him that the hero realized the evil that he caused to his relatives, realized his mistakes and was able to repent. Thanks to the fact that Grinev reconsidered his views on life and attitude to others, he was able to change the future for himself and his beloved.

Through repentance, Peter showed his best qualities - generosity, honesty, disinterestedness, courage, etc. It can be said that it changed him and made him another person.

The Sotnik (Bykov)

Now let's talk about Bykov's work, in which the other side of the problem of repentance is presented. Arguments from the literature can be different, and you need to choose them depending on your statement, so it is worthwhile to stock up with various examples.

So, the theme of repentance in "Sotnik" is not at all like Pushkin's. First of all, because the characters themselves are different. Partisan Fisherman is taken prisoner to survive, he needs to give out a comrade to the Germans. And he does this deed. But years pass, and the thought of betrayal does not leave him. Repentance overtakes him too late, this feeling can not fix anything anymore. Moreover, it does not allow Rybak to live peacefully.

In this work, repentance did not become for the hero the opportunity to leave the vicious circle and get rid of suffering. Bykov did not consider Rybak worthy of forgiveness. On the other hand, for such crimes a person should answer all his life, as he betrayed not only his friend, but his homeland, relatives and friends.

"Dark alleys" (Bunin)

There can also be a problem of repentance in another light. Arguments for writing on the USE should be diverse, so let's take for example Bunin's story "Dark alleys." In this work, the hero did not have enough strength to admit his mistakes and repent, but retribution overtook him. Once in his youth, Nikolai seduced and abandoned the girl, who sincerely loved him. Time passed, but she could not forget the first love, so she refused to take care of other men and preferred solitude. But Nikolai did not find happiness. Life cruelly punished him for misconduct. The wife of the hero constantly betrays him, and the son became a real rascal. However, all this does not lead him to thoughts of repentance. Here, repentance appears to the reader as an act demanding incredible spiritual efforts and courage that not everyone can find in themselves. Nicholas pays for this cowardice, indecision and lack of will.

As an argument, the example from the "Dark Alley" is suitable only for those who in their thesis turned to the problem of reckoning and retribution for those who did not repent of their atrocities. Only then the mention of this work will be appropriate.

"Boris Godunov" (Pushkin)

Now let's talk about the problem of belated repentance. The arguments for this topic will differ slightly, since only one aspect of remorse will interest us. So, this problem is perfectly revealed in the tragedy of Pushkin "Boris Godunov". This example is not only literary, but also partly historical, since the writer refers to the description of the epoch-making events that took place in our country.

The problem of late repentance is very vividly represented in Boris Godunov. Arguments for written work on this topic must necessarily be selected taking into account the Pushkin tragedy. In the center of the work is the story of Godunov, who ascended the royal throne. However, for power he had to pay a terrible price - to kill the baby, the real heir, the prince Dmitry. Several years have passed, and now it's time to repent. The hero is no longer able to correct the deed, he can only suffer and suffer. Conscience does not give him peace, everywhere Godunov begins to appear bloody boys. Those close to the king understand that he is weakening and going mad. Boyars decide to throw off the illegal master and kill him. Thus, Godunov perishes for the same reason as Dmitri. Such is the hero's payment for a bloody crime, the repentance for which overtook him only after a few years.

The problem of human repentance. Arguments from Dostoevsky's novel Crime and Punishment

The theme of repentance became the basis for another great work, which won a lot of popularity and love among readers.

The protagonist commits a crime to prove his inhuman theory about the lower and higher people. Raskolnikov commits murder and begins to suffer, but in every possible way tries to muffle the voice of his conscience. He does not want to admit his wrong. Repentance becomes a turning point in the life and fate of Raskolnikov. It opens the way to faith and true values, forces us to reconsider our views and realize what is truly precious in this world.

Dostoevsky throughout the novel led his hero to repentance, to admit his guilt. This feeling made Raskolnikov's best character appear and made him much more attractive. Although the punishment for his crime, the hero still suffered, and it turned out to be very harsh.

The Problem of Repentance: Arguments from Life

Now let's talk about another type of argument. It is very easy to find such examples. Even if nothing like this happened in your life, you can think of this. However, such arguments are evaluated lower than literary ones. So, for a good book example you will get 2 points, and for life - only one.

Arguments based on personal experience are based on observation of one's life, the life of parents, relatives, friends and acquaintances.

Remember

There are several general requirements for any works, including those that reveal the problem of guilt and remorse. Arguments must necessarily confirm the thesis expressed by you and in no case contradict it. It is also necessary to consider the following points:

  • The testers take into account and evaluate only the first two arguments, so it makes no sense to give more examples. It is better to pay attention not to quantity, but to quality.
  • Remember that literary arguments are evaluated higher, so try to include at least one such example.
  • Do not forget about the examples taken from folklore or folk tales. Similar arguments are also taken into account, but are estimated only with one point.
  • Remember that for all the arguments you can score 3 points. Therefore, it is best to follow the following pattern: one example from folklore or personal experience, the second from literature.

Now a few words about how to write a literary argument correctly:

  • Be sure to include the author's surname and initials and the full title of the work.
  • It is not enough to name a writer and a title, you need to describe the main characters, their words, deeds, thoughts, but only those that are related to the theme of the composition and your thesis.
  • The approximate amount of text per argument is one or two sentences. But these figures depend ultimately on a particular topic.
  • Begin to give examples only after you express your position.

Summing up

Thus, the problem of repentance in the literature is widely presented. Arguments for the exam on the Russian language, therefore, will not be difficult to find. The main thing is that all your examples confirm the thesis and look laconic and harmonious. Often the main problem of the examiners is not the choice of a work, but a description of it. Expressing in several sentences is not always easy. In order to avoid such a problem, you need to practice in advance. Take a sheet of paper and try to briefly and clearly describe your judgments, without getting out of the declared amounts.

The main thing is not to lose confidence and to prepare yourself as best as possible, then it will not be difficult to get a high score .
