Power Steering Pump and Replacement
At the present time, it is no surprise that almost every car has such a device as a hydraulic power steering (GUR).
Lubricating the product
The hydraulic booster, as well as the engine and transmission, requires the use of special oil. It carries out lubrication of the main components and components of this system. When choosing this oil, you should pay attention to the following parameters:
Resistance to oxidation;
Thermal stability;
Required thermal conductivity, viscosity and heat capacity;
- The required purity in the filtration process.
Service life of the power steering system
If the steering wheel suddenly became "heavy" when driving, the control of the car became partly unstable and noisy, then it is necessary to diagnose the entire system of the hydraulic booster. According to the standard, the operating life of the GUR is estimated at about 200-250 thousand kilometers. However, due to bad roads and low-quality oil, this system comes into disrepair much earlier.

- The air is in the hoses, and because of this, the oil is thrown back into the tank.
- On a running engine, when you turn the steering wheel, you hear a rumble, a squeal.
- Management becomes heavy.
- Oil leak.
- When the engine is started, the steering wheel is difficult to turn.
Oil leakage can be determined by the appearance of this fluid on other parts of the system. In this case, in order to repair the power steering pump, replace the oil seal. It is not difficult to do this.
Causes of tight steering
Inability of the pump shaft (erasure, corrosion).
Broken bearing due to lack of balancing.
- Wear a working pair. In the pump drum, the blades move with difficulty, that is, at a small speed, the pump is malfunctioning, and on the elevated ones it is almost normal, because the pump pulley rotates faster and the blades also.

This process can be performed independently, if you know the power steering pump unit and observe the exact sequence of actions.
Remove the protective cover of this unit.
We loosen the belt tensioner, then remove it.
Then we disconnect the hydraulic oil sensor of the hydraulic amplifier.
Next, detach the hoses and drain all the oil from the system.
After that, remove the high-pressure hose.
Then it is necessary to unscrew the bolts holding the pump. To do this, initially unscrew one rear fixture, and then turn the pulley. This is done until the holes are aligned with the front two bolts.
Then remove the pump.
- After that, press out the pulley from the detached attachment to mount it in a new one.
Establish the pump of the hydraulic booster of a wheel in the reverse order. We collect everything in the same way as we shot it. The oil needs to be poured with a new one, after having rinsed the whole system of the hydraulic amplifier.
