The power steering (GUR) is an important and practical mechanism for any car

Hydraulic power steering (GUR) - this is a very significant detail in the design of a modern car. At the moment, almost all foreign cars are equipped with this mechanism. Yes there they are, even on domestic machines there is such a device. And still some 10-15 years ago the installation of GUR on VAZ was considered an unattainable luxury and even in some way fantastic. Now the power steering is widely used in the world of cars, so today's article will be useful to everyone who has such a device.

GUR is a detail, the functions of which are to reduce the effort that the driver applies when turning the steering wheel of the car. Those who traveled on cars with power and without it, noticeably feel the difference in management. The hands do not get tired of the constant "spinning-spinning" of the helm. In addition, this spare part significantly softens the impacts transmitted from the wheel when hit on the pits. Accordingly, the running gear does not wear out so much. Also an important feature of the hydraulic booster is its resistance to rupture of the wheel on the front axle. In simple words, the GUR is a detail that keeps the vehicle in control over the direction of movement, in case the tire suddenly descends. If a car without a hydraulic booster gets into this situation, it will immediately go to the ditch, especially if the speedometer on the speedometer goes off scale to "hundreds".

The GUR system includes the following series of mechanisms:

  • A distributor that directs fluid flows in the cavities of the system;
  • A pump supporting the preset pressure and circulation of the liquid;
  • Working fluid, which is necessary to transfer pressure from the pump to the hydraulic cylinder;
  • Connecting hoses, which unite all the elements of the system;
  • Electronic unit that regulates the operation of the GUR.

This is all the components of this mechanism. When interacting with each other, they make the car more maneuverable and manageable, and the trip itself - safe and comfortable.

How can I increase the service life of the hydraulic power steering?

As you know, every mechanism or system requires regular diagnosis and repair. The service life of the hydraulic power steering can be several hundred thousand kilometers. However, this is only possible if the entire GUR system is serviced in a timely manner. The steering rack should always be in good condition, the oil level should be controlled approximately 3-4 times a month. Also do not forget that the fluid in the power steering system changes at least once every 6 months. If at the next observation you find that the oil has changed its color, urgently merge it and pour new. Do not operate the vehicle if there are leaks in the control unit. And one more thing: regularly check the tension level of the drive belt and adjust it if necessary.

So, we determined the significance of the hydraulic amplifier in a modern car, learned its design and the ways by which it is possible to significantly extend the life of this system.
