Electric power steering and its features

The electric power steering is a special device that ensures the reduction of the forces applied to the rudder, which are necessary for maneuvers on the road. After its installation, driving is much easier, and in extreme situations, the chances of the driver to manage to turn and avoid an accident. This device is used in cars and trucks, as well as in minibuses.

Due to its reliability, ease of use and efficiency, the electric power steering is very popular and is used by a huge number of drivers who do not want to spoil the impression of a trip by poor management.

This device operates as follows: when turning the rudder, the man-made effort is transferred to the steering gear. The torque sensor transmits the value of this force to the electronic unit, the same information is received about the angle of the steering wheel rotation, as well as the speed of the car. The electronic unit processes the received data, and on the basis of processing forms the signal of the necessary force. This signal is transmitted to the actuator, after which the required torque is determined and transmitted to the shaft or rail of the rudder.

Having studied the principle of the electric power amplifier, we can conclude that it is quite simple, and therefore this device consumes a reasonable amount of energy.

Electric power steering consists of a small number of elements, among which the main - four. This is a control module, a torque sensor, a gearbox and an electric motor. The task of the reducer is to provide support directly to the steering system, and the torque sensor monitors the torque specified by the driver, as well as the power of the gain.

Electric power steering can operate in several modes. In the turning mode, it works by the electric motor.

In the rotation mode at low speed, a control system is activated that ensures the formation of maximum torque.

When turning at high speed, the control system also works, but now the minimum torque is generated.

When the wheels return to the middle position, the control system ensures the formation of the required torque and correcting the position of the wheels.

There are also three levels of power steering support (gain) . Normal mode (full support) works when all the necessary information enters the control system. Limitation of support is provided when information is received, but not in full. But the lack of support arises in the event of a malfunctioning mechanism.

Speaking of faults, the repair of the electric power steering may be required in several situations. Of course, the repair is necessary in the complete absence of the device, but there may be less serious, but noteworthy cases.

So, go to the repair shop should be, if the application of equal efforts, uneven control (different force turns to the right and left). A bad sign is the sensation of hitting the steering wheel while operating, as well as the feeling of vibration when it rotates. You can not ignore the extraneous sounds produced by the steering wheel, like noise or creak.

Like any other mechanism, the electromechanical power steering requires a special, careful attitude. So, the electronic parts of the mechanism should not be exposed to moisture or high temperatures, and the steering column assembly should be protected from damage in every possible way. In the event of its fall, all the elements of the node should be replaced.

In addition, in no case should you pull the wiring for any purpose or touch the connector pins.
