The VAZ-2110 stove does not work: reasons

The car's interior heater (stove) is designed not only to create comfortable conditions for the driver and passengers in cold weather. Its role is also to ensure proper visibility, blowing the windshield with warm air, removing frost and moisture from it. In severe frost, it is unlikely that you will be able to ride normally without the heater switched on.

But sometimes it happens that the stove refuses to work, and at the most inopportune moment. Unfortunately, for our cars this is not uncommon.

If you suddenly find out that your stove has stopped working in the VAZ-2110, do not rush to the maintenance station, take a few minutes to independently diagnose it. If you're lucky, you can fix it yourself, but if not, then at least you'll know what the problem is.

Features of the design of the heater VAZ-2110

The design of the ventilation and heating system of the cabin "tens" differs significantly from the cars of the family "Samara". It is more complex, but also more effective. First, there is no crane heater, i.e. the cooling liquid, circulating in a large circle, constantly enters its radiator. Therefore, if the VAZ-2110 does not work, do not immediately sin on the tap and look for it. The temperature of the air entering the cabin is regulated by a damper driven by an electric micromotor, which is controlled manually by means of a special regulator, and also automatically by the car controller.

Secondly, manual adjustment is not based on the principle of "warmer-colder", but by creating a desired temperature with a special switch.

Thirdly, in the cabin "tens" there is a temperature sensor, guided by the readings of which, the electronic control unit of the machine can independently regulate the temperature and distribute air flows.

The VAZ-2110 stove does not work: reasons

We'll figure out what kind of heater malfunctions we might have to face. At once we will designate that if the VAZ-2110 does not work, it does not mean that all of its design immediately went out of order. Usually the reason for this is the failure of one of its elements. Before proceeding to diagnose and search for a possible problem, it is necessary to clearly define for yourself how the VAZ-2110 does not work: does not blow at all, cold air is blowing or slightly warm air is blowing. Being guided by these signs, it will be possible to draw a conclusion which of these elements failed: fan, control unit, damper, thermostat, radiator of heater or even salon filter.

What's wrong with the fan

The first and most common reason why the VAZ-2110 does not work is that the fan does not work. However, there can be several options here:

  • Failed fuse heater controller;
  • Malfunction of the mode switch on the control unit;
  • Malfunction of the drive (electric motor);
  • Broken wiring.

Turn the ignition on and set the fan control knob to any position other than off. If at the same time you do not hear the characteristic hum and feel the movement of air from the deflectors, you can be sure: the reason that the VAZ-2110 does not work is that the heater fan does not work.

Checking the fuse

Let's start with the simplest. We raise the hood and find the mounting block there, and in it - the fuse F-18. It must be removed from the landing nest and checked by the tester for suitability. There is another way to test, and it's much easier. In the "top ten", this fuse is responsible for the safety of not only the heater controller, but also the glare of the glove compartment, as well as the cigarette lighter.

Turn on the ignition, open the glove box and look at the lamp. If it used to burn before, but now it does not, most likely, the reason is the same, for which the VAZ-2110 does not work. The fuses for the heater fan are rated at 25 A. Note this when replacing.

Switch, electric drive and wiring

Check the serviceability of the fan switch is a bit more complicated. To do this, you need to remove the control unit and the tester in the ohmmeter mode to diagnose the resistor of the variable resistance.

To check the electric drive itself, it is necessary to remove the decorative covers near the windscreen from the outside and to dismantle the motor. You can determine its serviceability by connecting the drive contacts directly to the battery terminals.

As for wiring, its integrity is verified by the same tester in the voltmeter mode on the contacts of the fan motor. If there is voltage on them (in drive-on mode), then the wiring is complete. In the opposite case, it is better to turn to the autoelectrics.

The VAZ-2110 does not work: cold air blows

But the cold air from the deflectors may indicate that:

  • The damper jammed in a position that blocks the flow of warm air from the radiator of the heater;
  • The damper drive is defective;
  • The damper position switch is faulty;
  • There is an obstruction of the radiator of the heater, so that the heated cooling liquid can not normally circulate.

Cold air: drive or flap

If the VAZ-2110 does not work, cold air is blowing, first check whether the actuator is trying to change the position of the damper. To do this, turn on the ignition and rotate the position switch. In doing so, you should be able to hear if the electric micromotor is working and whether the damper is moving. If nothing like this happens, the problem should be looked for in the switch itself, checking it for serviceability, or in the drive motor. In any case, you have to dismantle the entire heater.

If you hear that the damper drive is working, but it does not change its position, most likely it just jammed it. In the "tens" can be found two types of dampers: plastic and metal. And if the latter wedges rather seldom, then for the plastic ones, which were equipped with the first VAZ-2110 series, this is a common phenomenon. The fact is that plastic under the influence of hot air is deformed, which, in fact, leads to jamming. To correct the situation, you have to dismantle and disassemble the heater.

Insufficiently warm air

It also happens that in the car VAZ-2110 the stove is not working properly, that is, the interior is not supplied with warm air. There can be two reasons:

  • The damper jammed in a position in which it does not fully open the air from the radiator of the heater;
  • Malfunction of thermostat;
  • Malfunction of the heater radiator.

On how to fix the situation with the damper, we have said above, but the thermostat and radiator is a separate conversation.

Thermostat and radiator of the heater

The reason for which the VAZ-2110 does not work is the malfunction of one of the cooling system components. It is a question of the thermostat and the radiator of the stove. In the first case, the coolant will circulate through a small circle due to a malfunction of the thermostat. Naturally, it will not get into the radiator of the heater. As a result, cold air will enter the salon.

It is not difficult to check the thermostat. To do this, warm the engine to operating temperature and lift the hood. Touch the bottom pipe of the cooling radiator. It must be hot (warm). If it is cold, we can say with certainty that in the VAZ-2110 the stove ceased to work precisely because of the thermostat jammed in the closed position. If the nozzle is warm, the problem should be looked for further.

Another reason why the VAZ-2110 does not work is the malfunction of its radiator. Most often it becomes impassable or not completely passable for a cooling fluid that carries heat. This occurs because of the deposition of scale and dirt on the inner surface of its pipes.

To check the radiator of the heater, warm up the engine and find in the engine compartment its two branch pipes. Touch the hand to them. They both need to be hot. If the inlet pipe is hot and the output pipe is cold or slightly warm, the radiator is clogged. The problem of its obstruction is solved either by washing with the use of special liquids, or by replacing the element.

It will not hurt to check and filter

The interior filter can also cause inefficient operation of the stove. Some car owners over the years do not pay attention to this element of the ventilation system, although even for their own sake, they must replace it with other consumables.

A clogged interior filter creates serious resistance to air intake, which means that the fan may not be able to cope with its task. In this case, both cold and hot air will flow into the interior with a weak stream.

Helpful Tips

Finally, here are some tips that may help to prolong the life of the heater in your car's interior.

  1. To ensure that the malfunction does not take you by surprise, check the operation of the stove even in a warm time when it is not in use.
  2. Pay attention to the efficiency of the cigarette lighter and the glove box illumination lamp. In case of malfunction, check and the stove.
  3. Watch the temperature of the coolant in the system. Remember that its overheating can indicate a non-operating thermostat, and this is fraught with not only problems with heating the cabin, but also the failure of the entire engine.
  4. Do not fill the system with a defective coolant. This will sooner or later lead to the formation of scale and obstruction of the radiator of the heater.
  5. Change the salon filter together with the oil filter and the fuel filter according to the maintenance schedule.
