Polypropylene sheet: types and technical characteristics

Modern building and finishing materials have quite good characteristics, which allow producing various complex products. So is polypropylene sheet. It is used in many spheres of human life. However, it can be used in everyday life or industry.

What is the material?

Polypropylene sheet is a synthetic building material that has excellent physical properties, as well as a large number of advantages. Therefore, the presented product is in demand both in everyday life and large-scale construction.

There are separate types of this material that have different properties. These types you will consider later. During the production of sheets, various chemical components are added to the raw materials, which improve the physical properties of the material.

Technical characteristics of the material

Polypropylene sheet has good properties that make it popular:

1. The melting point is +165 degrees.

2. Resistance to frost - up to 10 cycles.

3. The density is 0.92 g / cm3.

4. Elasticity - 1,15 N / mm square.

5. Thermal conductivity - 0,22 W / m * K.

Next, let's move on to the question of what are the advantages of the presented product.

Advantages of the material

Polypropylene sheet has such advantages:

- Wide range of colors and shades. In addition, the sheet can be opaque or transparent. That is, you have the opportunity to do different scenery.

- Resistance to temperature drop, corrosive substances, wear, frost.

- Ability to keep fit.

- High strength, while the sheet is flexible enough in the cold state. Naturally, in order for it to take the necessary form better, it can be slightly heated.

- Easy to clean and handle. This material is very easy to cut and plan. At the same time, you will not get a lot of debris or dust. Cut the material you can and grinder, and jigsaw.

- High thermal conductivity.

- Low water permeability.

- Ecological cleanliness. Even in the process of disposal, the material presented does not pollute the environment.

- Light weight.

- The material practically does not conduct an electric current.

Polypropylene sheet (its characteristics you already know) - this is really in demand, which allows you to embody the most daring architectural ideas.

Applications

Now we need to consider how widely this product is used.

1. In the food industry: for the production of containers, in which liquids (milk, water) or products will subsequently be packed.

2. In the chemical industry: for the production of containers in which an aggressive substance (alkali, acid) can be perfectly stored.

3. In the office: from it covers are made for books, notebooks, folders, envelopes.

4. In construction: for the lining of pools, the construction of foundation formwork. In addition, this material is suitable for the design of water and heat supply systems.

5. In gardening: from polypropylene are produced excellent pots and boxes for seedlings.

6. In addition, this material produces good mats for baths and saunas.

In general, polypropylene sheet, the technical characteristics of which are described in the article, is applied almost everywhere.

Varieties of the product

It should be noted that there are not many species of this material. There are types of polypropylene:

- Thick. From it, most often, containers or other products are manufactured for which rigidity is important. It is often used such a polypropylene sheet for swimming pools.

- Cellular. It is used as a packing material, as well as in construction.

- Foamed. It is often used as an insulating material.

Consider the latter type in more detail.

Peculiarities of foam

To date, it is very common. The fact is that the product has excellent properties: it absorbs sound and vibration well, retains heat. In addition, the material practically does not absorb moisture, despite its porous structure. It is very light, so it can be used to insulate not only single-story houses, but also high-rises.

Another foamed polypropylene sheet is very lightly burned. At the same time, no toxic substances are released into the air. It's very easy to work with him. It can last about 20 years.

The presented product is applied everywhere: for insulation of the building walls from the outside, sandwich panels. He is slaughtered inside the walls for better absorption of noise. Since the material does not absorb water, it can be mounted in places where there is high humidity. And it is used to pack various fragile goods.

Features of machining material

Soldering of sheet polypropylene is not a very difficult task . In this case, all the actions are performed quickly enough. It is very important to consider the correct machining of the product. So:

1. The instrument to be used for the work must be well sharpened.

2. The surface of the sheet should only touch the edge of the blade. In this case, the cutting will be more accurate.

3. During work, you must ensure the purity of the product. That is, the teeth of the Bulgarian must be periodically released from chips.

4. And you also need to make sure that the tool is cooled in time. This is necessary in order not to melt the edges of the cut.

Varieties of welding products

So, you can connect the elements among themselves in three ways:

- Polyfusion welding of polypropylene sheet. It is considered the most optimal and high-quality. To work, you need a special device that can heat the edges of the sheets to the desired temperature. Then they are strongly pressed against each other. After cooling, the seam remains very durable. In this case, a similar method of connection can be used for any material, regardless of its thickness.

- Welding with an extruder. To carry out the work you will need additional wire material. It should be noted that the connection is done by hand. Naturally, in this case it is not necessary to hope for a very high degree of strength. Most often the extruder is used when it is necessary to join sheets of large thickness.

- Welding with a special gun, giving hot air. Here, too, you need a special welding rod. However, the device is not able to maintain a high temperature of the air constantly. This indicates that the seam can not be very high quality. Naturally, there can be no question of soldering thick pieces of polypropylene in this case. The gun just does not warm the seam well enough.

The welding process itself must be done with caution. Consider the quality of the stick. For example, if it is refractory, then the force of pressing the gun on the seam increases. In order for the bonding to occur qualitatively, it is necessary to warm the instrument and auxiliary material well. Naturally, the temperature should be uniform.

In order to carry out soldering, the plates must be connected to each other. For this, clamps can be used. If this is the way to make it difficult, then there is another way: sweeping with a special spinner designed for this procedure.

After completion of work, attention should be paid to the cleanliness of the joint. Naturally, during welding, foam appears on it, which solidifies. In principle, if it is not visible, then you do not have to process the seam. However, you can clean it. To do this, use a sharp knife, which and cut the extra. Note that this should be done carefully, so as not to disrupt the integrity of the surface of the plate.

That's all the features of sheet polypropylene. Now you know how to handle it and what properties it has.
