Petrozavodsk: National Theater of Karelia

A real theater does not know nationality and it has no borders. As if the Petrozavodsk National Theater exists just to prove this assertion. It is about this amazing theater that we'll talk about in this article: we learn about its rich history and activities.

How it all began

In 1921, at the beginning of spring, the troupe began its work in Karelia, which was the first national troupe in the national theater of drama. Its organizers were Finnish emigre revolutionaries. The repertoire of Petrozavodsk's national theater initially included only Finnish pre-revolutionary dramaturgy. In the performances the artists showed the difficulties of the life of the border village.

In the Petrozavodsk National Theater, the first actors were graduates of the Art Studio of Leningrad.

In the 30th many Finns emigrated to different countries, as well as to the USSR.

It is from among these emigrants that the national studio of the Karelian State Drama Theater was established in Petrozavodsk. And the autumn season was famous for the fact that the theater teamed up with actors from a dramatic technical school, which was the reason for the birth of the Karelian National Drama Theater. Here the repertoire has already changed, giving way to a significant place for the Soviet classics.

But from 1937 to 1940 the theater ceased to function for a while. And only when the Karelian ASSR in 1940 was transformed into the Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic, the theater resumed its activities. However, the war began, and the republic was almost completely occupied by the Finns. And the theater itself continued its activity under conditions of evacuation in different places: in Siberia, in the city of Velsk and in other cities and regions, until, in the end, in 1943, he returned to Karelia.

Theater with novelties

Petrozavodsk National Theater surprised its viewer with many: both the cast and the excellent play of its talented actors and actresses. However, the real novelty for the theater was that here for the first time in the history of theaters headphones were used for simultaneous translation into Russian. This novelty has well begun at the audience.

Soviet repertoire continued to predominate in the repertoire, although there were many performances in Finnish.

Tours and cast members

Since 1951, a new chapter has begun in the history of the theater: touring and a set of popularity. For the first time Petrozavodsk National Theater began its tour from Moscow. A performance based on M. Gorky's "Vassa Zheleznova" was chosen. The success was indescribable.

For all the years of its activity, such talented and famous actors as the People's Artist of the USSR and Russia E. Tomberg, D. Karpova, T. Romppainen and many others have worked in the theater.

Festivals and different institutions

The theater, since 2005, has started an international festival in which ethnic theaters from the Barents / Euro Arctic regions, as well as the Finno-Ugric world '' Severnaya Zvezda '' could take part.

Also in 2006 a special department for drama actors was opened here. And the first graduates of these courses joined the theater in the performance "The trouble from a tender heart". And after a remarkable exit their work is put here in different representations.

Today the National Theater of Petrozavodsk is the main institution of the city. It is popular, as here ticket prices are not so high, which allows many to visit the theater at least once. And it's no accident, because here are collected the best and talented actors and directors of the country.

Since the theater is the main one in the city, in winter it is often organized by different events: for example, a disco in the national theater (Petrozavodsk). Discos are organized for adults and children, especially in winter. This is one of the favorite events of all small visitors.

After all, for decades of his life, the troupe and management could not once forget about their duty: to help the common people to come into contact with art. However, this did not happen, and today, after so many years, the theater continues its fruitful activity and, moreover, remains one of the best among thousands of others in Russia.
