Omsk gets the title of "City of Labor Glory"

The seventieth anniversary of the Victory is approaching, the whole country is preparing for the holiday. Recalling those hard years of the Great Patriotic War, contemporaries pay due respect to the heroes of all fronts, including the labor.

It is possible to state quite surely that the inhabitants of the whole territory of the country took up a labor watch, which lasted for many years. Boys who were only twelve, fourteen years old and their mothers, aged men and women, teenage girls, got up at the looms, went to work in the field to help fight the soldiers who had gone to the front.

In Omsk and the cities of the Omsk region, many large plants were evacuated. Workers stood at the machines working around the clock, changing each other in shifts, sometimes falling asleep here, so as not to waste energy on the way home.

Without days off and holidays, twelve, fourteen hours, and sometimes more, worked for many years, the heroes of the rear, providing the front with weapons, equipment, warm clothing and food.

By the day of the great holiday of victory, the city of Omsk receives the deserved title "City of Labor Glory".

The Regional Parliament, which established this title, prepares six more cities for the conferment of this honorary title.

The regional government confirms that each city of the region is worthy of such a title, but, first of all, it was decided to appropriate it to Omsk.

The source reports that on Thursday, the twenty-third of April 2015, the Legislative Assembly adopted a draft regional law on awarding Omsk with an honorary title.

Back in 2012, at the forum of workers in the rear, the first time it was mentioned that Omsk should be given an honorary status. A year later the deputies of the Legislative Assembly at a regular meeting supported this idea. Although the deputies believe that the law still needs to be worked out, they did not wait for it to be fully brought to the federal level. The law allows to assign the honorable status to cities to the regional parliament.

Another gift will be presented to Omsk on Victory Day. At the Old North Memorial Cemetery a monument to those soldiers who were killed on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War will be opened.

The author of the monument is sculptor Golovantsev Sergei, who lives in Omsk.

The monument is a sculpture of a warrior framed with slabs, engraved with the names of fighters who died in the Omsk hospitals from front wounds, for the tragic war years.

Thus, this year, Omsk will give proper memory to the heroes of the labor and combat front who have borne the brunt of the great Victory on their shoulders.

The victory went to the country not easily and became possible only thanks to universal cohesion. Today, during the hostile attitude towards our country of those who have a short memory, we must remember this and unite in spirit. You can not let ill-wishers do evil. We must not allow fascism to repeat its crimes.
