At the beginning of the 17th century, in times of turmoil, insurgent movements of the Volga Cossacks began in these parts, crop failures and famine were added. In 1609 the monastery was mercilessly burnt and plundered, its rector Archimandrite Gelasiy was rebelled by rebels from the bell tower. But over time the monastery again resumes and flourishes, at that time it owns six villages, fishing grounds along the Volga and almost 900 acres of land. The original buildings and churches of the monastery were built of wooden beams. The ancient historical documents indicate that in 1763 there were four churches in the monastery: the Holy Trinity, Tolga Mother of God, the holy apostles Peter and Paul (which later were dismantled because of the dilapidated building) and the holy Great Martyr Theodore Stratelates.

Reform

In 1764, as a result of the secularization reform carried out by Catherine II, the monasteries were divided into three classes, then all the estates and villages were taken from the monastery and taken to the lowest class 3, which provided for the staff of twelve monks.

During her voyage in 1767 the monastery arrived by the Empress herself, who decided to stay in Cheboksary. She began acquaintance with the city from a visit to the monastery, where she attended a solemn prayer service, served as rector, Archimandrite Chrysanthus.

In 1789 the Holy Trinity Monastery (Cheboksary) was taken over by the Vladmir-Sretensky Desert. In 1791, Abbot Anthony was appointed Abbot. By the end of the XVIII century, at the behest of Paul I, the monastery managed to regain 30 acres of land and a lake for fishing. In 1838, the monastery in the management receives Spaso-Gerontievu deserts, located on the right bank of the Volga.

Revival and ruin

In the XIX century, Archimandrite Dimitry (1899-1902 gg.) Begins to update the monastery monastery and sets in order the decrepit Trinity Church.

In 1902, the monastery began to be administered by Archimandrite Seraphim (Pavlinenko, 1902-1922 gg.), Who was tied to the monastic ministry on Athos about 20 years ago. It is thanks to his piety and prayer feat that the spiritual revival of the monastery begins, the number of brethren grows, a church-parish school for men, consisting of 73 students, is set up in a separate building. In 1918, by decree of the Soviet authorities, a census of property was carried out in the monastery, and then its confiscation.

After Bishop Seraphim in 1922, Abbot Vassian (Shaposhnikov) was the abbot of the monastery , who until the last struggled to keep the monastery functioning. However, this did not help, and in the middle of autumn of 1924 it was closed, and in 1926 Komsomol and Pioneer clubs were made out of it.
