Neurasthenic syndrome: diagnosis and treatment

Neurasthenic syndrome, or neurasthenia - a disease associated with diseases of the central nervous system (CNS) of a person. It represents the exhaustion of the body, resulting from prolonged mental and physical stress. Most often neurasthenia is suffered by people with a mobile way of life who react violently to failure and take everything to heart. According to statistics, men at the age of 20 years are subject to this disease most often. This is due to overload in terms of work, lack of rest, personal problems and stress.

Neurasthenic syndrome: what is it?

Neurasthenia is a painful condition of the nervous system that appears as a result of its exhaustion. Doctors often call this ailment "irritable fatigue". This term accurately characterizes the neurasthenic syndrome.

A person who suffers from them feels both fatigue and at the same time incredible nervous excitability. People who lead an active lifestyle, putting public activity first, are especially prone to neurasthenia. They try to do everything in everything, which leads to chronic fatigue, from which there is no medicine. In other words, neither sleep nor long rest can not save a person from this feeling. It remains only to completely change consciousness, and then, perhaps, life will change.

Causes of neurasthenia

The appearance of this disease can be caused by a large number of reasons. For example, they often refer to a lack of vitamins in the body, a decrease in the level of immunity, exposure to toxic substances, etc. Sometimes the disorder occurs as a result of metabolic disturbances. However, the main cause of neurasthenic syndrome is the incorrect arrangement and reassessment of mental capabilities. Development of the disease occurs due to constant stresses, depressions, anxieties, etc.

A person who works hard will sooner or later feel too tired. The body simply stops resting, because of this, exhaustion of the nervous system of the body is formed. Neurasthenic syndrome (ICD code 10 - F48.0) promotes the appearance of insomnia, irritability, incomprehensible quick temper. Overloading your body, a person is exposed to a significant risk, which in most cases is not justified.

Symptoms of ailment

Of the signs of neurasthenia can be identified:

  • Chronic fatigue;
  • Weakness of the body;
  • High irritability;
  • Sleep disturbance and lack of appetite.

It is also necessary to pay attention to heart problems, especially if there is a shortage of air. The patient will feel that the heart is working very slowly and at any time can stop, although the cardiogram often does not show any deviations. There are sharp pains in the heart, as well as intolerance to public transport, regular swings and bouts of nausea.

Symptoms of neurasthenic syndrome are manifested in the form of headache and dizziness. Perhaps the development of phobias, such as fear of enclosed space, fear of public speaking, etc. A person is constantly in exasperation, loses sleep, there is panic fear without reason.

Stages of neurasthenic syndrome. Hypersthenic form

In total, there are three stages of this ailment, the most common of which is hypersthenic. At this stage, most patients feel perfectly healthy, and irritability and excitability are written off as a nonsense.

However, neurasthenic syndrome develops, and more attention should be paid to this factor. Usually the patient gets angry with the slightest noise, it irritates the sound of conversations of passers-by, signals of passing cars, etc. He often screams at interlocutors, turning to insults.

In this case, the mental component is also not happy. The patient is not able to concentrate attention, as a result of which the level of working capacity decreases. Problems with sleep, heavy morning rises, a sense of weakness, headaches are typical for the hypersthenic form of the disease.

Irritable weakness

This stage occurs if the patient has not made some efforts to treat the first. In this case, the ailment becomes a pathology, life becomes simply unbearable. Neurasthenic syndrome is the exhaustion of the body, which is well manifested at this stage of the development of the disease. And in vigorous people, this illness manifests itself quite vividly. This is due to the fact that they apply a lot of effort in the wrong direction.

At this stage, the patient is no longer ready to take up work. Uncertain attempts do not lead to positive results. On the contrary, fatigue and impotence immediately appear, which can not be overcome. Breaks for lunch or rest can not help restore the working capacity of a person. There are mood swings. Neurasthenic syndrome is characterized by irritability and weakness. There is a feeling of resentment because of the inability to do anything, and sometimes there are tears. A person feels helpless, and therefore there is stress, depression.

Hypostenic neurasthenia

This form is characterized by a long prolonged lethargy and passivity of the body. There is apathy, indifference, the patient does not want to start work. Especially dangerous is the neurasthenic syndrome on the background of hypertension, since the increased pressure acts on the body not on the most favorable side. Symptoms of neurasthenia, supplemented by an increase in the level of pressure, have a detrimental effect on the human body.

The hyposthenic form of the disease can lead to complete recovery. Because of weakness and inactivity, the body rests and gradually accumulates strength. At one point it is restored, and a person can return to normal life. Often there are situations when the patient who has got rid of neurasthenia, again behaves the same as before. Because of this, a relapse occurs, and the ailment returns in a more severe form. The person becomes inadequate, and causeless depression is replaced by an increase in the general tone of the body and excessive optimism.

Neurasthenia in women

It is rather difficult to accurately determine the picture of this disease in women, because the symptoms manifest themselves in different ways, in very rare cases the ailment develops the same way. Of the general signs can be distinguished indifference, bitchiness, as well as instantaneous mood swings.

Most often, a woman suffering from a neurasthenic syndrome, looks quite calmly and does not show her emotions. It is hard to bear failures, does not want to listen and understand anything, often tries to prove its rightness. In this regard, there are problems both at home and at work. The inability to rest normally leads to the appearance of chronic fatigue. Then there is discontent with oneself, inhibition in thoughts and uncertainty.

In addition, sometimes there is sexual neurasthenia, which is characterized by difficulties in the sexual sphere due to nerves. She appears because of sexual dissatisfaction or distrust of a partner.

Neurasthenic syndrome in children

Despite the fact that children in most cases are not subjected to the same level of workload as adults, the child can also develop neurasthenia. There are following forms of this disease in childhood:

  1. Frustration with a sense of fear. The child feels unexpected attacks of fear, which can last up to half an hour. The kid is afraid to stay alone in the dark and gloomy rooms.
  2. Hysterics. Usually they suffer children aged 4 to 6 years. They are expressed in the fall on the floor and loud crying.
  3. Stuttering. Strangely enough, this phenomenon also refers to the forms of neurasthenia. After all, stuttering appears as a result of considerable fright.
  4. Problems with sleep. The child can not fall asleep, he is afraid of nightmares at night, sometimes there is sleepwalking.
  5. Enuresis. Quite often occurs in children, characterized by unconscious urination, mainly at night.

Neurasthenic syndrome in children has many manifestations, and its treatment directly depends on the true cause.

Diagnosis of the disease

It is rather difficult to correctly determine the exact diagnosis of neurasthenia. The decision is based on the patient's complaints, careful external examination, and the use of instrumental methods. With their help you can weed out at once chronic diseases, various infections, somatic lesions. However, you need to make sure that there were no brain injuries. For this, computer tomography should be performed.

Diagnosis of neurasthenic syndrome is made on the basis of complete trust between the patient and the doctor. The doctor in this case acts as a psychologist. The patient needs to tell about everything that bothers and torments him. The fact is that the analysis of neurasthenia can not be carried out with the help of special studies, the diagnosis is placed solely on the patient's stories and certain criteria.

Treatment

There are several ways to treat neurasthenic syndrome. The most effective are those that are aimed at restoring the patient's mental state. A great solution will be a session of hypnosis and relaxation. Here the patient learns to think positively, and also to control his actions and actions.

Sometimes a doctor prescribes medicines to treat a neurasthenic syndrome. A certain course of therapy is being developed, which includes taking medications. Most often these are antidepressants and biological stimulants.

Treatment should be accompanied by proper nutrition, as well as minimizing mental and physical exertion. It is necessary to explain to the patient that rest and rest are necessary, and daily walks and mobile games have not harmed anyone yet.

At home, often the therapy is not as effective as in a special institution. The fact is that the household component irritates the patient, reminds him of problems. Therefore, if possible, the best course of treatment is not at home.

Folk remedies for treatment

Self-therapy is usually not welcomed without the approval of a physician. Neurasthenic syndrome is no exception. However, you can use the following tools in the early stages of the disease or together with complex treatment:

  • Decoction based on herbs. Usually, thyme, bony or bearberry is used because they have soothing properties. Grass (dry and crushed) must be poured with boiling water and cook for about 5 minutes. This broth is used for 1 tbsp. Spoon several times a day.
  • Infusion of herbs. The principle of cooking is the same, only this solution does not need to be cooked, but simply cover and let it brew. Here the fruits of hawthorn and cranberry leaves are perfect.
  • Tincture. This liquid is insisted on quality vodka. Such a drug for about 10 days is in a dark place, before being ready for use. 15-20 drops before meals 3 times a day.

Massage as a remedy

This method of therapy is not the main one, but it will perfectly suit in combination with the main course of treatment. The main purpose of the massage is to relax the body, improve blood circulation and work of internal organs.

Movements should be smooth, so that the patient feels relaxed. It is not recommended to use claps and blows with the palm of your hand. The average duration of the massage is about two weeks for 20 minutes every day. Sometimes it is appropriate to conduct a session in a dark room, if the patient is very tired, both morally and physically.

Prevention

According to ICD 10, neurasthenic syndrome manifests itself in severe fatigue after overload. Therefore, the main preventive tool will be compliance with the regime of the day, a clear delineation of work and rest. If there is a stressful situation, you need to find a way out and no longer be exposed to this risk.

Making the mode of the day, you need to pay attention to the establishment of a rest period. It is desirable that a full sleep last 8 hours, and go to bed and get up is recommended at the same time every day. You should avoid conflicts, do not try to do all the work in one day. It should be remembered that inveterate workaholics are considered the main candidates for the development of neurasthenic syndrome.
