Bootable USB flash drive: how to make and what it is needed for

The days are past when even experienced users knew two types of operating systems: Windows and OS X. However, even the latter was not known by all, as the camp of "makovodov" of our country began to replenish rapidly only in recent years. Fortunately, now people are not scared by the terrible words "Ubuntu" and "Fedora", as the shelf of fans of Linux arrived. That's only among them there are those who do not know much about these operating systems, but how they make a bootable Linux flash drive, they do not even have a vague idea.

Well, we are ready to help them! First you will have to get the original image of the system that you were going to write to the flash drive. Unlike pirated copies of Windows, getting it for you will not be difficult: just go to the developer's site and legally download the appropriate version.

But! It's best to download the x32-bit version, since a bootable USB flash drive is most often created with the goal of always having your favorite work system with you. How to know on which computer you will have to use it: it may well happen that you have to load it on an ancient "mammoth", which will hardly pull the old bit capacity. But it's better not to do this, since so old hardware might not support your idea of using USB flash drives as a boot disk.

So, with the download understood. First, let's look at the case where you are going to write an image from under the Linux OS itself. Consider how this process will take place in Ubuntu, as it is currently the most common and popular OS of this family.

It will not be difficult to do this, as everything you need will be at your fingertips. First of all, open the Dash by clicking the button with the Ubuntu symbol in the upper left corner of the monitor. In the search line, write something like "Create a bootable disk" or immediately drive the name of the program USB-creator, with which we will create our bootable USB flash drive Linux.

Started? Then run the program to the place where the image file you downloaded is located. To do this, click the button with the ellipsis ("Browse"), which will open the local file manager. After that it is desirable to immediately reserve a certain space on the flash drive, which will be used by the system as a repository for those files that you create or download while working with the system.

Since the bootable USB flash drive is most often created just for work, we advise not to be greedy and reserve all available space. To do this, at the bottom of the working window of the program there is a slider with which you can precisely adjust the amount of disk space occupied. After all the preparatory procedures, click on the button "Create a boot disk" and wait for the end of the process.

If you create such a bootable media from the Windows operating system, everything will be even easier. Also download the system image file and the program called Unetbootin. It is very light, does not require installation, and the principle of action as two drops of water is similar to the above described USB-creator. With how to create a bootable USB flash drive, you can easily figure it out on your own.
