How to insulate the loggia

In most of the apartments the loggia is usually used for storing various unnecessary items or are empty, and in fact their space allows to significantly increase the area of housing, expand the room or make some additional space in which you can install a berth. The first thing that will make a loggia more comfortable is its thermal insulation. Next, you will learn how to insulate the loggia, and will also describe what tools and materials you might need for this. Effective heat insulation can be provided solely through a comprehensive approach, including quality glazing, floor and wall insulation . Where to begin?

How to insulate a loggia: quality glazing

Most loggias already have glazing, but usually this is a simple frame made of wood with a single-ply glass. Ordinary rooms lose about 20% of the heat through the window apertures, and in the loggias this figure reaches 50%, since one-third of the entire space is covered with glass. The heat can be saved by replacing the old frames with new plastic windows. After installing the windows, you can proceed to the next steps of warming the loggia, but first you need to check the joints for the presence of slots. Such slots can cause heat loss, so they must be repaired using gypsum plaster.

How to insulate a loggia: we insulate the floor

The floor can be insulated in one of two ways: install an electrical system "warm floor" or make the floors on a wooden frame. Before you start working, the floor needs to be cleaned of all excess, then choose the material for thermal insulation, then foam or mineral wool is available for you. First you need to install the lags, which serve as the basis for the future sex. Between them it is necessary to arrange the heat-insulating material. To ensure a quality contact of the thermal insulation with the floor, you can use a special gypsum mixture. When using ordinary mineral wool, it is important to arrange it so that it covers the entire floor surface with an even layer. After laying the insulation comes the time of the facing. It is best to use a wooden board, the thickness of which is 1.5-2 centimeters, pre-fitted in width and trimmed. With the help of screws, the boards should be bolted to the logs after they are tightly packed. When deciding how to insulate the loggia, do not forget about the possibility of using electric floors. This solution is very effective, as it allows not only to insulate the floor, but also to warm the room. To begin with, the floor needs to be leveled with a concrete screed, after that it is necessary to lay out the heating cable, which must be fixed with a special tape. After that, a special self-leveling mixture is poured, completely covering the heating elements. The thickness of this layer should not be more than 15 millimeters.

How to insulate the loggia yourself: wall insulation

Mineral wool and polystyrene are also used for the insulation of walls and ceilings.

First you need to make a crate of wooden beams, the cross section of which is 3 * 4 centimeters. To the beams, then sheets of foam will be glued or fastened. The thickness of the thermal insulation depends entirely on the thickness of the walls. All gaps and knocks should be filled with a mounting foam that perfectly retains heat. Before you start laying insulation, you should conduct all the necessary cables for electrical appliances and lighting. On top, the foam should be covered with a reflective material, for example, with foil. Now the walls can be sheathed using plasterboard, as well as plastic or wooden lining. Facing is made with the use of moisture resistant gypsum board.

In deciding how to insulate the loggia yourself , there are no difficulties. It is important to understand that the thermal insulation of the balcony allows you to significantly save heat, expanding the useful space of your home.
