The size of the birdhouse. How to make a birdhouse with your own hands

Probably, the fathers and grandfathers of many of us in our childhood did birdhouses. And today, in many trees, these small wooden houses are installed, in which bird houses find shelter. Make a birdhouse with your own hands, the size of which is quite small, very simple, without having to stock up with a large number of materials or tools.

Origins of tradition

Attempts to provide accommodation for birds have been undertaken by man since ancient times. For example, in India, where humanely treat all animals, for the starlings hung bottles of pumpkins, which were grown specially. In Europe, the first to domesticate the birds were in the Netherlands, well, actually the birdhouses first appeared in Russia. They were created from a tree and at the same time were so interestingly decorated that they could well go for a work of art. Peculiar teremki with carved ornaments and gable roof looked very bright, and it was very difficult to create them. This indicates a great love of people for birds and their work. Today, birdhouses are not so often, but still in many cities and villages they can be found.

We prepare components

It is necessary to bring children to live nature so that every child develops harmoniously and correctly from childhood. To begin it is necessary with arrangement of an environment, for example, to make a house for birds. The size of the birdhouse is such that it does not take much time and special skills to do it. So, we need to find and prepare:

- edged board one meter long, 18-25 mm thick and 200 mm wide;

- board for the sides of the house with a length of 800 mm and a width of 150 mm;

- nails or screws,

- tools (a hammer or a screwdriver, a pencil, a hacksaw, a drill).

In general, the size of the birdhouse can vary depending on what parameters the board that you have is at hand.

Drawing up a drawing

As is known, in any construction process an important role is played by the plan or project. In our case, we will draw up a simple drawing on which we will delineate the details of the future house. Already at this stage we will need the exact size of the birdhouse, so that the boards are well adjusted to each other. After the drawing is ready, we transfer it directly to the material using a square and a simple pencil. All the details should be marked carefully and carefully, otherwise in the long run the walls simply will not converge. We get seven blanks with the parameters that we asked ourselves: two side walls, two - to create the bottom and the bottom of the roof, three more will serve as the facade and the back wall with the lid of the house.

We cut out and proceed to installation

So, the drawing is moved to the boards, now you need to carefully cut out the details and be sure to sign them, so as not to get confused. Before building a birdhouse, the dimensions need to be rechecked again - suddenly some part is made with errors. It is important to leave the exterior and the inside of the house rough, so that the birds can cling to them with claws and move around. On a smooth board it is recommended to make notches for the convenience of birds. Typically, the typical size of the birdhouse is as follows: width - 20 cm, height - 30 cm, depth - 15-20 cm.

Seven times check ...

Before proceeding with the installation, it is worth to carefully check all the details. They should be closely connected with each other - this is the main thing. Now take the middle wall of the house and cut a round hole in it. To do this, from the top edge, make an indentation of at least 5 cm. Draw two lines perpendicular to each other - the intersection of these lines and become the place for the flying hole that we will drill.

Practice: how to make a birdhouse

We checked the dimensions, the details and tools were prepared. Now it's time to start the assembly. First, we attach the right side wall and the front part, then the left wall and the back part. We connect the corner pieces, fasten them together. The bottom is connected with the help of self-tapping screws. Now it's time to make a lid of two parts, and you need to collect it so that there is a visor above the hole at least 5 cm. We need a lid to at least occasionally do the cleaning inside the house. The birdhouse is ready! It remains to hang it. Ornithologists recommend to hang these houses in quiet and uninhabited places. Mount them best on a special wooden stand, which will connect the birdhouse and tree trunk, using wire. Use nails is not worth it so as not to damage the bark of the tree.

In general, the size of a birdhouse for starlings is such that other small birds will also fit in them. Do not make the flying hole too big, otherwise cats can penetrate there, for example. In addition, you should make it a round shape so as not to accidentally injure the birds. It is not necessary to paint the finished structure, since sharp odors can scare them away.

A simpler version of the birdhouse

It is not always possible to make a house for birds made of wood, especially in urban conditions. That's why we offer one more option - to use a plastic bottle with a volume of 1.5-2 liters. In the lower part, we cut out a hole about 5-7 cm in size, while its edges should be pasted with a band-aid or melt so that the birds do not get injured. Ideally, you need to cover the bottle, for example, with an opaque adhesive tape or paint, most importantly, that it is odorless.

How to care for a birdhouse?

To begin with, it is worth remembering that you need to hang it on deciduous trees with a slight inclination forward - this will protect the house from getting water into it. You can hang them at any time of the year, but best in March-April, when the birds return from the south. The entrance is directed to the south or east side to protect the house from the wind. In autumn and winter, birdhouses need to be removed, dirt, twigs, feathers, food leftovers removed, since parasites can multiply there. And this is dangerous not only for birds. This is why the lid is removable.

Installation of the birdhouse is not only a real aid for birds, but also the opportunity to teach their children to take care of nature and living beings. In addition, in this way you can decorate your garden or garden and enjoy singing and chirping of bird families.
