Pulse power supply units by one's own hands: assembly and adjustment features

The bulk of electronic devices require a DC power supply with a voltage of 12 volts. Pulsed power supplies with their own hands are assembled on the basis of a chip with the necessary parameters. Its selection is carried out by radio engineering tables. The winding of the step-down transformer is made on the ferrite ring, the material grade is M200MN.

Transformer manufacturing

The primary winding consists of an insulated wire MGTF 0,7, secondary of the wire PEV-1, folded in half. Between them there must be an insulating layer, which is made of fluoroplastic tape. The secondary winding in the middle part has an additional branch for the supply of the control microcircuit. Outside, the wires are covered with a double layer of fluoroplastic tape.

Pulse power supplies with their own hands are mounted on a printed circuit board made of a single-sided glass cloth. The technology of production of such products is described in detail in the relevant literature and goes beyond the scope of the article. The drawing of current-carrying tracks for a printed circuit board was developed on the basis of the circuit diagram of the device. For transistors, radiators are needed, which are made from an aluminum plate.

Required radio components

As an input choke it is rational to use ready throttles, these are usually placed in power supplies of displays or personal computers. The capacitor is calculated based on a capacity-to-power ratio of one to one. The rectifier is made on the basis of a diode bridge with a low operating frequency. Such a device is capable of providing a current of up to 3 amperes at the output.

The pulsed power supplies used in radio electronics, the circuit of which has long been tested and tested, have transistor keys. The selection of triodes is carried out according to the given parameters, the IRF 840 series or VT 1 and VT3 have proved to be very good. Transistors to provide the necessary temperature regime must have cooling radiators to remove excess heat.

Pulsed power supplies with their own hands are assembled with the output part of the circuit represented by chokes based on ferrite cylinders about 40 mm in length with a diameter of 3 mm. The dense winding is made from the same wire as the secondary winding of the transformer. It is possible to use other ways of stabilizing the output group, but the tested circuits are reliable. Finding other solutions in this case will be a waste of time.

Build and configure

A quality power supply unit with its own hands is soldered on the prepared board. When performing the installation, it is necessary to ensure normal lighting of the workplace and ventilation. After soldering, it is recommended to check the reliability of the installation of radio components and the contact between them and live tracks. Removing solder residues from the inner surface, which can lead to a short circuit.

Switching power supplies, assembled and prepared for start-up by their own hands, are recommended to be loaded with a current-limiting resistor during testing. In this capacity, an incandescent lamp with a power of 60 W can be used, its short-time switching will serve as an indicator of the correctness of the assembly.
