How to cook shawarma at home?

Eastern dishes have recently entered our diet. The geography of their distribution has long gone beyond the countries in which they once appeared. Now no one is surprised by the baklava, white halva with sesame, rahat-lukuma, sherbet and churchella, exhibited in glass windows of supermarkets.

On the streets of our cities, before the eyes of the customers, the master cooks show how to prepare shaurma (or shaverma), juicy kebab or lamb shish kebab. Practically in any restaurant you can taste delicious soup kharcho, couscous, beshbarmak and dolma. In entertainment venues, bars and cafes you can enjoy with pleasure excellent coffee in the east and hookah.

The variety of oriental dishes is huge. But can you cook them at home on your own? Of course you can. And it will cost you much cheaper, and as a product of doubt, you certainly will not have to. I, for example, simply adore shawarma, I cook it very often for my home. And with any fillings and without any reason. Therefore, in this article, I will describe my most favorite recipe for how to cook shaurma at home.

Shaverma is a dish consisting of a stuffing of poultry, beef or mutton meat and vegetables, seasoned with various sauces and spices, wrapped in pita bread or pita. Only from one of her appetizing smell and kind involuntarily begins salivation! By the way, in Jordan traditionally shawarma is cooked from camel meat.

So, let's start cooking:

Before cooking shawarma, meat must be marinated. It is first cut into fillets, then discarded and poured marinade for about 10-12 hours. For the marinade you will need an oriental mixture for meat (curry, coriander, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, black pepper, spicy zatar), olive oil, red vinegar, onion, sliced onions, salt and parsley. All this is thoroughly mixed and poured into meat.

When the meat is almost marinated, prepare additives for shaverma. You are already very close to how to make a home shawarma.

Ingredients for Shaverm:

  • Fresh meat - 800 grams;
  • Fresh cucumbers - 5 pieces;
  • Fresh tomatoes - 5 pieces;
  • pickled onion;
  • Lavash or pita.

Ingredients for sauce:

  • Low-fat sour cream - 200 grams;
  • Finely chopped green onions - 50 grams;
  • olive oil;
  • Crushed garlic - 3 cloves;
  • Pickled cucumbers - 2 pieces;
  • Seasonings.

How to cook shawarma? Fresh cucumbers peel off the skins and cut into cubes. Tomatoes are also cut into cubes or strips. Onions cut into half rings and marinate. It is possible in the same brine as meat. Sour cream is mixed with crushed garlic, grated pickled cucumber, green onions, olive oil and spices, leave everything to stand for 25 minutes.

Take the meat from the marinade and lightly fry it in vegetable oil until a thin brown crust is formed, cut into strips 1 cm wide and about 5-7 cm long. Wrap the meat in foil and place in a fire-proof dish for 20 minutes in the oven at a temperature of 180 degrees. After twenty minutes, remove the foil, but leave the meat for another 10 minutes in the oven in an open container.

Option with pita:

Cut the pit horizontally, but not to the end, so that on the other side it was closed. Inside put the filling of cucumbers, tomatoes, pickled onions and meat, pour with sauce.

Variant with lavash:

Divide the pita bread into a square about 30x30 cm. From one edge along the entire length, lay out the filling and sauce with sauce. Turn the pita into a roll and put it on the oiled frying pan for a minute.
