Gallery Gary Tatintsyan - for those who are bored with classicism

A famous patron, gallery owner, collector, this man has organized exhibitions of contemporary artists for several decades. It's about Gary Tatintsyan.

A bit about the founder of the gallery

Being an Armenian by birth, he moved to Moscow to continue his father's business and become a dentist. But he did not like this specialty, and when in 1988 Gary and his family emigrated to Germany, his world view changed radically. Once abroad, the young man began to carefully study the artistic world of Western countries and collect. Soon he managed to open his gallery in Berlin, which, however, very quickly disappointed him, and she had to close. But Gary, despite the first failure, continued to study the art market.

Art Gallery in New York

Not finding work in Berlin, Tatintsyan moved to America. In 1998, he decided to found his own exhibition center for contemporary art in New York. Deciding to "shoot", as the press wrote, to the New York audience, he gathered in one place the works of three artists who created innovative style, which, although never together, were exposed, but, being familiar, strongly influenced each other. They were Americans Frank Stella, George Sugarman and Judy Pfaf. It must be said that the New York gallery of Gary Tatintsyan had an incredible success. America was "surprised", "smiled" and recognized the collector.

Art Gallery in Moscow

In the Russian capital in 2005, the first gallery of Gary Tatintsyan was opened. It was located along Ilyinka Street. Then, on his first exhibition, the art dealer brought the creations of eight artists: Tony Ousler, Vick Munis, Peter Helly, Christine Calabriz, Anthony Gormley, Torbin Giler, Stefan Balkenhol and Tony Matelli. Each of them was represented by two works. The metropolitan viewer could appreciate the work behind which many European museums stand in line.

The first gallery of Gary Tatintsyan in Moscow was oriented towards conceptual Western art, Russian avant-gardism of the beginning of the twentieth century, photography and design. Art dealer is sure that in the Russian capital there are many well-to-do intellectuals who are able to appreciate such art.

Since its opening, the first gallery of Gary Tatintsyan has already managed to present such contemporary artists as Joel-Peter Witkin, Daniel Richter and Damien Hirst, Peter Helly, Tala R, Christopher Wool, Yasumasi Morimura, Peter Doig, Jonathan Meese, Cecily Brown, George Baselitz , Chris Ofili, Tony Matelli, George Kondo and others.
