The Voronezh River flows through the territory of the Lipetsk, Tambov and Voronezh regions. Formed at the confluence of Lesnoy Voronezh and Polyne Voronezh. It is a typical lowland river. It starts near the village of Pushkino (Ryazan region, Ukholovsky district). The confluence of the two rivers occurs near the village of Novonikolskoye (Tambov region, Michurinsky district). After that, for 60 km the river flows to the north-west. There it falls into the Stanova Ryasa. Five kilometers from the place of confluence, the river turns sharply from north to south, with a slight deviation to the south-west. If you look at the map, we will see that the Voronezh River is a reservoir, on which are located three cities - Voronezh, Lipetsk and Michurinsk. You can also see that there are many different villages along the coast. And, for example, below the village of Stupino to the left bank adjoins the Voronezh Reserve. Let's start a trip with Michurinsk

Many have heard of this city. From these places the Voronezh River begins. The map confirms this. Michurinsk is the all-Union center of scientific fruit growing. The city was founded as a fortress for protection against nomadic peoples in 1636. In the city there are: the house-museum of IV Michurin, the museum of local lore, the drama theater, the Ilyinskaya church - an architectural monument built according to the project of V.V. Rastrelli, the famous architect.

Michurinsk is located on the steep bank of Lesnoy Voronezh, from where we will begin our small trip. After several fairly large loops, the river connects with the Polar Voronezh. From this place of confluence the river itself flows, which is the theme of this article. Its current is calm, its width is 20-30 meters.

A little further, having accepted the influx of a large size - Stanovoi Ryasu, it becomes noticeably fuller. On the right bank, high, there are mainly small settlements, on the left - forests. Soon before the village of Dobroe we will see a ruined dam. Depending on the experience of travelers and water level, along the dam you can walk along the channel along the left bank or along the weir.

We are in Lipetsk

This city originated in the XIII century, but its development began in the late 17th century, when Peter the Great performed the Azov campaigns. Even according to his decree, ironworks were built in Lipetsk, which provided the fleet, which was being built in Voronezh, with the necessary metal. A little later the city began to develop as a mud and balneological resort. At this point in time, Lipetsk is a major cultural and industrial center of Russia. There are: a local history museum, a drama theater, a house of Peter the Great, a museum of local lore and other architectural monuments of the 17th-18th centuries. We reach the middle part of the city and see that the river has spread widely in this place, and it turned out to be a basin with a width of 700 meters and a length of two kilometers. Below Lipetsk, we see that along the right bank the villages are almost continuously stretched, and on the left - deciduous and pine forests.

Between Lipetsk and the village of Ramon

In the floodplain there are bogs, many old people, lakes. The Voronezh River (on the map of the area it is clearly visible) crosses throughout its many interesting and beautiful places. After the village of Troitskoe it is divided into channels, here the current is weak, but tightens, so you need to follow the route carefully, so as not to end up in a dull canal. On this site the forest recedes from the water and appears again at the villages of Karamyshevo and Pada.

On the left bank, from the village of Verbilovo, on a large territory lies the hunting farm Kulikovskoe. The Voronezh River is a tributary of the Don

The map of the rivers of Russia shows us clearly that the Voronezh River is one of the numerous tributaries of the largest reservoir in the European part of Russia - the Don. Yes, in Europe it is second only to the Danube, the Dnieper and the Volga by the catchment area. Its catchment area is 422 thousand km ² , and the length is 1870 km. It begins at an altitude of 180 meters above sea level, in the northern part of the Central Russian Upland. Previously, the source of this great river was considered to be the exit from the famous lake Ivan, but this is not so. Now this place is often called the Shatskoye Reservoir, located north of Novomoskovsk, the city of the Tula region. This is also incorrect, the reservoir is even fenced off by a railway dam from the river.

A little bit about Don

The real source of the Don is at a distance of 2-3 kilometers to the east, in the park. It even established the "source of the Don" - an architectural complex, although the source itself in this complex is fed from a water supply network, that is, of artificial origin. Shipping on the river operates from the mouth to Voronezh, distance - 1590 km.

There is a place where Don is very close to another large river - the Volga. The map of the rivers of Russia defines this place as the district of the city of Kalach. The distance between them is only 80 km. Here, in 1952, both rivers were connected by a navigable Volga-Don canal.

A little more information. A dam was built near Tsimlyanskaya village, which raises the water level by 27 meters. Its length is 12.8 km. Thus, Tsimlyansk reservoir was formed . It has a capacity of 21.5 km ³ , a useful one - 12.6 km ³ , an area of 2600 km ³ , stretches from Golubinskaya to Volgodonsk. Of course, the dam gives a benefit - it houses a hydroelectric power station. The waters from this reservoir are used for watering and irrigation of the Salsky steppes and other steppe territories of the Volgograd and Rostov regions.

Tributaries of the Don River

As already noted, the Don stretches almost 2000 km. On its entire length, it feeds on many tributaries, both large and small. The largest are three:

1. Bear, on the left side, 767 km - length, 34,700 km ² - the pool area.
2. Hopper - on the left, 1008 km - length, 61100 km² - the pool area.
3. Seversky Donetsk, on the right side, 1016 km - length, 99600 km² - the pool area.

There are so many small inflows that only their enumeration will take a whole page. Their length is from two kilometers to 1862. Some do not even have a name.
