As in the BIOS put the boot from the disk. How to enable booting from a CD / DVD drive

For many situations involving the use of modern computers, it requires, so to speak, interference in the basic settings of the hardware of the computer. Therefore, it is advisable to know how to do it correctly.

Probably, in the recent past, each user had to spend an "unofficial" amount of money, in order to reinstall the operating system and the necessary software applications. The expectation of a specialist and the inconvenience caused by the call still cause the person to draw the proper conclusions and decide on an exceptionally expedient step - to implement the process of reinstalling the inoperative OS by himself. As a result, the first completely legitimate question appears: "How in the BIOS to put the boot from the disk?" It turns out that this is not so difficult.

So what exactly is a BIOS?

The fact is that any computer is initially equipped with an independent electronic chip, the essence of which is to manage the hardware of the computer. That is, a person, using the functionality of the BIOS, can in practice make changes to its software settings, which critically affects the OS boot parameters. The activation or deactivation of some hardware components is also performed in the basic I / O system environment. At its core, the question of how to boot from a disk in BIOS involves changing the priority of one of the boot devices.

Different and simultaneously similar microprograms: computer trinity

To date, 3 types of BIOS have been widely used:

  • American Megatrends (AMI).
  • Award Software (Phoenix Technologies).
  • Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI).

The last item on the list is Intel's new brainchild. A practical, multilevel and intellectually intelligible interface, the revolutionary BIOS has outperformed its predecessors in the perfection of technological solutions.

The question of how to put the boot from the disk in the BIOS is solved in different ways

In order to enter the basic computer system, you first need to know its "pedigree", that is, to what type your DSBM belongs. When you turn on the desktop or laptop from the information displayed in the upper left corner of your monitor, you can understand what you have to deal with. Well, and what to do next, you will learn from the read below.

Award Software and Phoenix Technologies

The same "delete" key and "morozopodobnoe" pressing will allow you to enter the holy of holies of your electronic machine.

  • Arrow keys "up / down" go to "Advanced BIOS Features".
  • In the first paragraph (usually by default there is Floppy) with the "enter" button, call the drop-down submenu and specify "CD-ROM", this is your drive, which became the priority bootloader.
  • We return to the main menu by pressing "esc".
  • Save & Exit Setup is the next step, so to speak, the final one. Agree to the conservation question by selecting the letter "Y".

Attention! Loading the laptop from the disk differs from the stationary version only in some difference of the buttons used to enter the base system of the laptop. Most likely the use of the keys "delete" and "F2". Again, you will not have any problems with the correctly activated button, if you press "Pause" during the initial computer boot. At the bottom of the display is a service line with detailed information about which key is responsible for directly entering the BIOS settings.

By the way, loading HP from the disk (meaning the laptop from the manufacturer Hewlett-Packard) requires a more detailed description:

  • To change the sequence of devices to start at the time of reboot, press "F10". In some models, you must use the "F2" or "F6" button.
  • Select the "Advanced" tab, you can use the navigation arrows to the right / left.
  • Then in the "Boot order" you set the boot priority - DVD-drive.
  • In conclusion, press "F10" and confirm your consent to the changes.

It is worth noting that the "F9" key allows you to return the default values. Now for you the question of how to boot from a disk on an HP laptop is also allowed and understandable.

American Megatrends (AMI)

  • When you start the computer, briefly press the "delete" key. In the BIOS interface that appears, select the "Boot" menu.
  • Then - "Boot Device Priority".
  • In the drop-down list, we mark the boot priority from the CD-DVD drive, and the hard disk should be (visually) lower.
  • The next step is to press the "esc" key.
  • Go to the "Exit" menu and use the up / down arrows to activate "Exit & Save Changes".
  • In the drop-down box agree, clicking "ok".

Congratulations! The question of how to boot BIOS from the BIOS is solved for the AMI BIOS.

Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI)

This basic system is much clearer and more comfortable to use. First, Russian language is provided in the design of the interface. Secondly, everything is extremely thought out. An important convenience can be considered the realized ability to control with the mouse. So, configure the required load parameters:

  • And again the irreplaceable "delete" key. A few clicks will help us enter the main BIOS window (UEFI).
  • In the lower left corner of the screen, select the highlighted interactive button "Advanced (F7)". Click it with the right mouse button.
  • The drop-down box will ask you to confirm your actions: "Enter advanced mode?" Agree - "ok".
  • Next, you need to activate the "Download" tab.
  • Scroll the mouse with the proposed list to the last point of the "Change of loading".
  • The next step: right-click from the first suggested drop-down list to select your drive. After this, the base system will automatically reboot the computer with the changed parameters.

Agree, everything is elementary simply. After you change the priority of devices in the BIOS program, booting from the hard disk will only occur if there is no installation disk in the drive. However, after all the necessary actions, it is recommended to return the boot priority to the default values.

Finally

Before your theory turns into a regular practice, it is worth remembering one golden rule: I'm not sure of the correctness of my actions - do not change the settings in the base BIOS. The consequences can have a lamentable result. Remember: when making adjustments to the computer's hardware environment management program, you can completely "kill" the machine. Therefore, be careful of what you are doing.

Particular care should be taken to adjust the settings, the change of which affects the supply voltage devices. Also, it is not recommended for users who have initial notions about the operation of the computer to independently perform actions that contribute to the overclocking of the processor, or to reflash the BIOS part of the program, otherwise problems can not be taken.
