A question for experienced flower growers: why do not flower daylilies?

Despite the name, the daylilies do not belong to the same species of plants as the traditional lilies. Many beginning gardeners often face a strange problem: the bush grows well and has a dense healthy foliage, but buds do not appear. "Why do not flower daylilies?", "What exactly does not have enough plants?" And "Is it possible to rectify this state of affairs?" - the main issues arising in this regard.

Remarkable bright representatives of the flora are very easy to plant, and care for them does not require special skills and constant monitoring. Daylilies in the garden will be an excellent decorative element throughout the flowering season. The leaves, located on bizarre branches, have well proven themselves as a material for creating various floral compositions.

With proper care on one plant can be up to 15 flowers. Each of them is dissolved only for one sunny day, giving way to the next bud on the following day. Usually flowering occurs in July, and lasts almost until the end of summer. Competent breeding of daylilies allows to increase the number of arrows with buds. The widespread modern varieties of foreign breeders are quite undemanding compared to the traditional yellow species of this plant. If planting and leaving does not require any effort, why do not flower daylilies not only in the first season, but also for many years?

The place for this plant is best picked up by well-lit. Even a weak shadow can interfere with the normal maturation of the buds. Also it is necessary to neglect excessively damp places, in which water can stagnate, for example, after a rain or plentiful watering - daylilies can weaken and lose healthy roots. This plant prefers a loose, well-fertilized composted soil, and each hole must necessarily be drained.

It is worth taking care of the "neighbors" of tasty smelling bushes - you can not plant this flower near the apple trees, as they take a lot of nutrients from the surrounding soil. In this case, the foliage will be juicy and fluffy, but the arrow with the buds can not wait. Another reason why the daylilies do not bloom may be the wrong depth of planting. The root collar should never be buried more than 2-3 cm. Otherwise, the plant will never give a single flowering branch.

Too overgrown bushes and late autumn planting can also be the reason why the daylilies do not bloom. This can happen due to the freezing of roots or stems, "winter" diseases or the need for a long recovery after hypothermia. Watering is needed a rare - every 2 weeks, but necessarily regular, no less than a bucket of water under each bush. In spring, the soil around the daylily is mulched with ordinary compost, but you need to make sure that the fertilizer does not fall on the root collar. To prolong the natural flowering it is necessary to tear off the withering buds in order to preserve the maximum of substances and trace elements useful for the daylily. Some new species grow very slowly, but the huge variegated bushes, dotted with flowers, are the best gratitude for the labors in their garden.
