Thyme: growing from seeds

"Thyme" in Greek means "sweet incense" - it was lit in the temples for a tart aroma. In addition, this plant has long been considered a symbol of courage. That is why the ancient Roman soldiers in front of important battles took baths or drank strong aromatic tea from this herb. A branch of thyme was embroidered even on the clothes of knights, symbolizing fearlessness and courage in battle.

Thyme, thyme, Bogorodskaya grass - all these are the names of one plant, which is a short, long perennial shrub with gently purple small flowers, collected in neat brushes. There is a wide variety of varieties of this unusual plant. The most common are thyme creeping (Thymus serpyllum) and thyme lemon (Thymus citriodorus). The latter is especially interesting in that each of its leaves is adorned with a white border. This curiosity especially pleases the owners with their sunny color.

Thyme, grown from seeds which can cause certain difficulties, will gladly grow at your dacha, but do not disdain and flower pot. In this case, spicy grass will delight you all year round with an incredible smell.

Many gardeners want to get a plant in their collection like thyme. Growing from seeds occurs in early spring - best of all thyme (another name of thyme) reproduces in a seedling way: young seedlings will quickly take root and settle down much better, and next year you will already have your own small rug from this lovely shrub. Plant thyme should be at a distance of 30-40 cm with intervals of 50 cm. And from the timely irrigation and fertilizer will not refuse any sort of Bogorodskaya grass.

Quite often on the dry slopes of the south of Russia there are small purple flowers spread over a dense carpet. This is thyme. Cultivation from seeds is somewhat difficult because young plants grow very slowly, and we constantly struggle with weeds throughout the season. However, the next year the Bogorodskaya grass will already completely cope with them.

Of course, it is much easier and quicker to breed this plant in the flowerbed by dividing the bush. Thyme, grown from the seeds of which - a rather laborious process, will only suit hardworking gardeners who have the patience to wait for the harvest until next year.

It is impossible not to mention the medicinal properties of thyme: it is an excellent diuretic, helps with headaches, and also promotes the rapid healing of insect bites. Bogorodskaya grass also has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and expectorant properties. In just a few days you can get rid of a painful cough, using it as a mouthwash for mouth and throat rinsing.

But the main reason for this popularity of thyme is its use in cooking. It perfectly complements not only meat and fish dishes, but also salads, omelets, side dishes, sauces, dressings, etc. Many cooks simply do not imagine dishes without this fragrant seasoning.
