Tilsit world

At the beginning of the IXX century, events took place in Europe, as a result of which, in 1807, the Peace of Tilsit was concluded between Napoleon Bonaparte and the Russian Emperor Alexander I, which influenced the entire course of history.

Proclaiming himself in 1804 as the French emperor, Napoleon nurtures the idea of conquering Europe. In contrast to his plans between Austria, Great Britain, Russia, the Neapolitan Kingdom, Portugal and Sweden, a third anti-French coalition is being created . Under Austerlitz, coalition forces were defeated, and Austria entered into an alliance agreement with Bonaparte. Russia as part of the fourth coalition, which included Prussia and Britain, continued military operations against Napoleonic troops. In the Battle of Friedland in the winter of 1807, the Russian army was defeated by the French and was forced to retreat. Napoleon achieved his goal and was able to impose on the Emperor Alexander the shameful and unprofitable Tilsit world in every way.

Signing of the contract

The meeting of the two emperors took place in the town of Tilsit. Now it is the city of Sovietsk in the Kaliningrad region. June 25, 1807 on the River Neman for the meeting of the emperors was built raft, which was held face to face meeting, which had very serious, but, unfortunately, negative consequences for the Russian Empire. After that, several more meetings took place between the heads of the powers, and Alexander even attended the review of the French troops. July 7, 1807, the Tilsit peace was signed. From that moment, the map of Europe began, which, by and large, was the beginning of the end of Napoleon Bonaparte's rule.

Terms of the contract (assignment)

The Tilsit world put the Russian Empire in a very disadvantageous position. Under this treaty, Emperor Alexander I was forced to make the following concessions:

  • To join the blockade of his ally - Great Britain;
  • Recognize all of Napoleon's conquests;
  • To help France in waging wars;
  • Withdraw troops from Moldova;
  • Recognize the relatives of Napoleon as kings (Neapolitan, Dutch, and Westphalian);
  • To recognize the formation of the Duchy of Warsaw dependent on France .

The Tilsit peace of 1807 completely isolated Great Britain, which found itself in a continental blockade, while Napoleon no longer has rivals to fulfill his ambitious plans.

Conditions of the contract (compensation)

It should be noted that, in concluding the Peace of Tilsit in 1807, Emperor Alexander I made several concessions on the part of Bonaparte. Russia received the Bialystok department as compensation. Danzig at this time becomes a free city, and a relative of Emperor Alexander, the Prussian King Frederick William III, receives back the old Prussia, Silesia and Pomerania.

Tilsit world, consequences

Progressive strata of Russian society perceived the terms of this peace treaty as a slap in the face, and Napoleon was not called otherwise than a usurper. It took another five years for the Russians to be able to face each other honestly and openly. Only the Patriotic War of 1812 was able to provide this opportunity.

The Tilsit world, the consequences of which the Russian economy experienced, in fact, was catastrophic. At the beginning of the XIX century, the Russian Empire supplied grain, hemp, timber and much more to the European market. Because of the blockade of Great Britain, which accounted for the lion's share of Russian exports, the economy of the Russian Empire suffered enormous damage. Seriously affected by the merchants and landowners. The continental blockade of England caused a decline in Russian trade almost twofold, and its treasury significantly "lost weight". Most of all, Prussia suffered from the Treaty of Tilsit. She lost half her land and paid indemnities to France until the end of the 19th century.
