Why do people communicate? Forced or need

At first glance, the question of why people communicate seems easy. But is it really easy to answer it? The obviousness of the answer lies in the incomplete understanding of the meaning of this word, which is mistakenly equated in our minds with the concept of conversation, speech. But this is not so. The question "Why do people communicate?" Can not be answered without a clear understanding of the concept of "communication".

Term meaning

As already mentioned above, this concept is equated with the concept of conversation, speech. Insufficient understanding gives an erroneous answer to the question "Why do people communicate?", Which is answered only for the transfer of information. But this is only an integral part. The true causes are much deeper.

Communication is divided into two categories:

  • Verbal.
  • Nonverbal.

The first just corresponds to the conversation, the exchange of data. The second is understood as interaction without the use of speech. These are gestures, views, correspondence, etc. Suffice it to recall the children's game, when without words it is necessary to name an object. This will be a vivid example of non-verbal communication. But let's proceed to the reasons according to the school course.

Why people communicate. Grade 7, Social Studies

From the course of social studies it follows that a person is characterized by activity. Without it, existence is impossible. The activity is of a conscious nature. It also has productivity. Those. All that we do is consciously, as a result, there is some result. But human activity is of a public nature, because Is impossible outside the collective, society. Therefore, to achieve it, one simply needs interaction with other people. Therefore, it becomes clear why people communicate. To achieve the results of activities. But more about this.

What is need: concept, hierarchy, types, communication with communication

But the reason for the activity is a certain need. It is she who is the main motive. It is common for a person to ask questions: "Why?" "For what purpose?" "Why go there, go to work, write a letter?", Etc. This requires a need. Those. The reason for acting.

The hierarchy of needs, which psychologists still use, was put forward by the American scientist A. Maslow. According to his theory, there are 3 categories. The peculiarity of them is that until the needs of the former are met, the person will not satisfy the others, etc.

Natural needs are included in the first category. These include the need for food, water, air, housing, etc. They are also called physiological, natural. Without their satisfaction, a person will simply perish. They are paramount. With this it is difficult to argue. People who die from thirst in the desert, least want to read books and watch television programs.

Social. This need is related to society. Labor activity, social activity, desire for recognition. This includes the need for communication.

Perfect. Or they are called higher spiritual. It is a desire to improve, to comprehend something new, create, etc.

So, why do people communicate? Social science as a course gives two reasons:

  • Necessity. Because A person lives in a society, he does not achieve certain results without interacting with other people.

Necessity in this case is implied as a forced measure. A person does not want to contact anyone, but he has to live by circumstances. For example, during serious depressions, he wants to be alone, not to see anyone, come to himself. However, other people are always around. At work, in transport, in a store.

  • Need. Communication to a person is also necessary for nothing. To remain a social being. Be a full-fledged person.

The last example is clearly illustrated by the following example. A person entering an uninhabited island does not need communication to meet biological or ideal needs. He is one. He himself produces food, breeds fire, copes with the challenges of nature. But gradually his mind becomes clouded, he starts to go crazy. In this case, psychologists recommend "creating" an imaginary friend for communication. Sometimes this method is used by children who are restricted by any circumstances in contact with other children.

Goals of communication

Having disassembled the reasons, we will define the goals of communication. There are several of them:

  • Transfer and assimilation of social experience.
  • Formation of individuality in a person.
  • Socialization (becoming) of personality.
  • Interaction on the exchange of information.

Types of communication

Depending on the characteristics of psychological properties, the following are distinguished:

  • Primitive.
  • Role (refers to the social role of man: father, husband, etc.).
  • Business or professional.
  • Friendly or interpersonal.
  • Manipulative or imperative, aimed at gaining benefits.
  • Secular non-objective.

Communication Tools

The most common is language, speech. Phrases, words, etc.

The second tool is correspondence. This includes business documentation. Recently, electronic communication on social networks is gaining popularity.

To instruments of communication also include gestures, touches, looks, intonation, sometimes bearing a completely different semantic load than words.

Results
