Nonverbal communication - what does it say?

To appreciate all the power that non-verbal communication carries in it will help the fact that according to psychologists most of the information, namely 90%, we get from non-verbal signals. And only 10% of it can give us words. Why is this happening? Because people know that it is more difficult to forge a non-verbal communication, if I may say so, than a verbal one. After all, what is verbal communication - it's just words, and words are controlled by our brains and we'll think about ten times what can be said, and what is worth delicately concealing from the interlocutor.

It is quite another thing - non-verbal communication, it is artificial to send non-verbal signals to the interlocutor only by professionals who are aware of this - psychology, agents of special services and others who somehow deal with professional psychology. But such, you see, is not so much. Many more ordinary people who express their real thoughts of feeling with the help of gestures and other things.

So, what is non-verbal communication? What are its types, what does it consist of?

It should be remembered that nonverbal communication is not only gestures and poses: the palm on the knee or hands rest on the sides, etc. It is a whole complex of signals that carry information about the object - these are the poses that we accept when communicating with the interlocutor, and gestures, and the facial expression, and the size of the pupils, and our breathing is quickened, relaxed, excited, and also intonation of the voice, when We talk.

Imagine for a moment how a person, lowering his eyes and biting his lips, says that he is all good in life and he is happy. Do you believe in his words or do you objectively evaluate his non-verbal signals? I think that you will trust the words you uttered in the last place. And it is right.

But not only this is interesting non-verbal communication. The fact is that there are basic signals that are the same for all or for the vast majority of peoples. For example, a nod of the head or a shrug of the shoulders - which indicates the consent of the interlocutor or his confusion. But there are signals that differ from different peoples, so it was in their culture.

For example, for residents of the Asian region and especially for the Japanese, the rule is important that showing respect to the interlocutor means - do not look into his eyes. The Japanese will look anywhere - on your neck or lapels of your jacket, but not in your eyes. For a European or an American, this avoidance of visual contact will mean that the interlocutor is embarrassed, or hides something, or is simply depressed or not interested in the issue under discussion. And this difference of cultures must be taken into account.

But other non-verbal signals, such as: dilated pupils, trembling lips, rapid breathing change consciously almost impossible. If a Japanese is surprised, just like a European, the pupils of both will expand.

And one more question that stirs the minds: why is it necessary to know and even more consciously study non-verbal signals? Yes, in part we can understand them intuitively. For example, if the interlocutor stands in front of us, with his hands on his hips, this will mean dominance. But you need to know some signals in order, oddly enough, to be able to use them in your favor. Someone needs this when negotiating or making sales, or it is important for those who do not really want to be fooled.

For example, the seller by gestures and by the expansion of the pupils sees that the buyer is interested in the product, which means that it can increase the price somewhat. And vice versa, if the pupils of the buyer are narrowed, then the cost of the goods should be somewhat reduced.
And one moment. Remember that non-verbal signs need to be analyzed in a complex. For example, if a person scratches his nose - it does not only mean that he is cunning. For example, it may be that he has a banal allergy and it is difficult for him to breathe.
Nonverbalistics is a science, and it is necessary to approach it thoroughly.
