Vladimir Grigoryevich Fedorov: biography of the gunsmith and engineer

Fedorov Vladimir Grigorievich - a famous Soviet engineer in the field of weapons. Thanks to the technical skills of Vladimir Grigorievich, the best weapon of those years was improved for the Russian Empire - the machine gun. However, despite the unconditional talent of the gunsmith, the release of his military weapons was constantly discontinued due to any circumstances. That is why the name of Vladimir Fedorov, who participated in the creation of small arms of the Second World War, for many Russians is still not so famous. However, this article will tell a lot about the biography of the gunsmith.

Biography of Fedorov Vladimir Grigorievich

The great engineer and designer was born May 15, 1874 in the cultural capital of Russia - St. Petersburg.

The father of Vladimir Grigoryevich Fedor worked as a superintendent of the Imperial Rightist Building.

Vladimir Fedor's biography is extremely diverse in its events, which indicates that the engineer was indeed an outstanding mechanic.

Education of Vladimir Fedorov

At first Vladimir Fedorov studied at the St. Petersburg State Gymnasium, where he received his secondary education, and after his graduation entered the Mikhailovsky School of Artillery, after which he had already a special education. It was after graduation that Vladimir joined the army of the Russian Empire in 1895, where he served for two years as a platoon commander.

But on the education received, Vladimir Grigoryevich Fedorov decided not to stop. In 1897, he entered the Academy of Artillery in the same Mikhailovsk. His practice on production Vladimir Fedorov was held at the arms factory, which was in Sestroretsk. It was there that he got acquainted with the plant's chief - Sergey Mosin, who already at that time was a well-known weapons designer. Mosin's most famous work was a three-line rifle, which was taken over by the Russian army in 1851.

The first steps in the service of Fedorov

After graduating from the academy in 1900, Vladimir G. Fedorov was accepted as a rapporteur in the weapons department of the Main Artillery Directorate. It was there that Vladimir Fyodorov got access to many materials stored in archives and carrying an official character. In these documents there was a lot of information about the armament of the Russian army and the armies of other countries.

First engineering experience

Already in 1906, Fedorov completed the first project to create an automatic rifle, which relied on the drawings of the Mosin rifle. This decision was made by Fedorov because at that time there were about five million "mossins" in arms, and their conversion to automatic weapons was much cheaper than the creation of a new one.

In 1906 the project of Vladimir Grigorievich was officially approved. It was from this moment that Fedorov's career in the field of engineering began.

Serious changes in weapons

In 1911, Fedorov began another project, which provided for cartridges with a smaller caliber, which changed the entire design of the rifle. With the outbreak of the First World War, about 200 new Fedorov rifles were fired, but soon the assembly of this weapon was stopped.

Already in 1916, at the suggestion of Fyodorov, automatic rifles that could carry out uninterrupted shooting were officially adopted. It was this weapon that became known as the Fyodorov automatic weapon.

In September of the same year, an arms factory in Sestroretsk ordered an assembly of twenty-five thousand Fyodorov assault rifles. Despite such an excellent development of events, because of poverty and lack of material in the war years, the order was first reduced to ten thousand copies, and after that it was completely canceled.

The further life of Fedorov

In early 1918, Vladimir Grigorievich Fedorov was offered the place of chief engineer at the machine-gun plant in Kovrov. Thanks to the technology of fabricating and assembling details of Fedorov, as early as 1920, 100 automatic machines were ready. And in 1921, thanks to the skills of Vladimir Grigorievich, the manufacture of automatic machines gained considerable speed - 50 pieces per month. It was at this time that Fedorov was working on the creation and development of new small arms, which were used later in the Second World War. The small arms over which Fedorov worked even then helped a lot in the victory of the Soviet troops over the fascist invaders.

In the 1920s, Fedorov, together with Shpagin and Simonov, created several variations of machine guns for tanks.

Even at the end of the Civil War Fedorov still managed to make a huge number of different changes in the design of his machine. In 1924, his more advanced weapon passed all the tests and began to be produced by the weapons factories. However, despite all the innovations, the machine with even smaller caliber ceased to be produced. But by that time more than two and a half thousand units had already been created.

Writing Activities

After the end of World War II, Vladimir Grigorievich Fedorov wrote a scientific book that told about the appearance of artillery weapons in Russia. It is in his writings that he writes that this type of weapon appeared and was first used in the late 1300s.

In addition to his enormous work on the creation of weapons, Vladimir Grigorievich writes several books about the "Lay of Igor's Host ...", in which he considers all events solely by the view of the serviceman, evaluating them from a military point of view.

Death of the great armourer

In 1953, Vladimir Grigoryevich Fyodorov resigned.

In 1966, the great engineer and gunsmith Fedorov dies in the capital of the Soviet state. Vladimir Grigoryevich was buried in the same place, in Moscow, at the Golovinskoye cemetery.
