Materials used in the production of furniture. Furniture made of chipboard, MDF furniture, furniture from natural wood

When choosing furniture, we pay attention not only to the design, but also to the materials from which it is made. Currently, manufacturers use different materials (metal, plastic, solid wood, MDF, fiberboard, etc.), but the most popular among them is the chipboard.

What is a chipboard?

Laminated chipboard - laminated chipboard. It is formed by hot pressing of wood particles (shavings) with a binder (resin) - a chipboard (chipboard), followed by facing with a stable melamine film (lamination) - laminated chipboard (laminated chipboard).

Melamine film can be coated with a special lacquer, resistant to moisture and mechanical damage.

The material of the chipboard has a good appearance, does not require further finishing, has high consumer qualities. Melamine films of various colors and shades allow you to create furniture from chipboard of any color scale, even mimic the structure of stone, natural wood, animal skins. Create furniture "antique" or with metallic shades - it's easy!

Laminated chipboard is used to make cabinet furniture: beds from the hpps, cabinets, chests of drawers, shelves, showcases, living room furniture, pedestals for shoes, kitchen corners, tables, chairs, etc., upholstered furniture: sofas, armchairs.

In addition to melamine film, on top of the chipboard plate can be lined with veneer, plastic and other types of coatings. For example, plastic coating is used in the production of kitchen cabinets. Red, orange, green, blue, black, purple facades of kitchen cabinets with sparkles and overflows are very popular.

For the first time the chipboard appeared in 1940 in the USA for temporary furniture of American refugees. In Russia, EAF began to produce in 1975, although wood chips were used as far back as 1947 in the manufacture of stools and doors.

Furniture made from chipboard is beautiful, practical and inexpensive.

The following issues can be attributed to the disadvantages of chipboard: badly kept screws, nails with repeated twisting, clogging. Of course, furniture made of natural wood is safer, compared to furniture made from particleboard, because the resin that is part of the wood particle board releases formaldehyde, which is harmful to humans. Only E1 and Super E class panels are considered safe. Abroad, furniture is made only from the Super E class.

Particle boards of P-A grade have better water-resistant properties than plates of grade П-Б. If flame retardants are present in the EAF, the plate acquires fireproof characteristics.

Along with the chipboard, there are other types of wood boards, such as fiberboard and MDF.

Of the fiberboard, the back walls of the cabinets, the pedestal, the lower shelves at the sofas, the backs of the beds, the partitions, the shelves are made.

Fiberboard - a carpet of wood fibers (groups of wood cells), obtained by steaming and grinding wood raw materials (wood chips and wood) and its subsequent hot pressing using binders. The thickness of fiberboard is from 3.2 to 5 mm. The fiberboard can be made wet or dry. The wet method gives plates one-sided smoothness, dry method - two-sided smoothness.

MDF - more progressive material than fiberboard and chipboard. It arose in the improvement of the dry method of production of fiberboard. MDF is made from dried wood fibers treated with synthetic binders and formed in the form of a carpet with subsequent hot pressing and grinding. The most important difference of MDF material is that the physico-mechanical characteristics of furniture from LMDF surpasses furniture made of natural wood, and their cost compared to conventional wood is below 60 percent.

Furniture from MDF is becoming more and more popular and is currently the most active competitor of furniture from chipboard.
