Daylily hybrid: care, reproduction

The name of the daylily - "hemerocallis" - literally translates as "a beautiful one day." This is due to the characteristic feature of this plant: its flower is opened only one day.

The daylily hybrid, like the other varieties of hemerocallis, is a rhizome herbaceous perennial. It has cord-like accessory roots, fleshy and thickened, which help the plant resist drought. Daylily hybrid - this is a fairly versatile flower. It can grow not only in the shade, but also in the lighted areas. And everywhere its blooming will be plentiful, although under the sun the flower will open completely, and with its shortage will remain at the bud stage. "The wormhole hybrid" wakes up very early, as soon as a positive temperature sets in at night, that is, somewhere in early April. He blooms abundantly and long enough. A developed plant has twenty or more peduncles with the number of buds up to four dozen, which are revealed successively, one by one. The color of the plant flowers varies from light yellow, almost white, to dark red with all the existing shades of orange, pink, lilac and purple. From under the snow, the daylily hybrid leaves with the already overwintered leaves, which began their growth last fall. In general, it is a relatively young plant that was bred in the late twenties of the last century by botanists Stout Arlow and Perry Amos.

Care

Daylilies, the growing of which is gaining popularity, grow on clayey and sandy soils, but prefer well-drained, fresh and loose soil. They are very tolerant of acidity, but the most optimal is neutral earth. The daylily hybrid does not like abundant watering: ideal for him will be a dry top layer of soil, reaching the level of a developing rosette, and moist at a depth of 20-30 centimeters. In cold weather, stagnant moisture is disastrous for this plant, however, when flowering you need regular watering. And it should be done strictly in the evening or early in the morning, pouring water under the root. At the end of flowering, all the shoots must be cut, and since in the wet weather there is no loss of flowers, they also need to be removed. Many growers before winter cut off the entire aboveground part. Herbalist hybrid prefers slow-acting top dressing.

Reproduction

This plant reproduces both seeds and vegetatively, although in the first case the varietal characteristics of the plant are not preserved, so only breeders use it. The best time for dividing the daylily is spring: it usually takes place at the end of April. The signal for the beginning of transplantation is its movement into growth. Therefore, the earlier the division or transplantation begins, the less the flower will be injured. And in later terms of such works, the hybrid daylily may not bloom at all this year.

Daylilies, landing which is used in several directions, can form not only very beautiful curbs. Planting them with a large group, you can create an inexpressible composition.
