Thread-elastic: how to sew it right?

Probably, someone from needlework lovers has already tried to work with an elastic thread, which is often called spandex or rubber thread. It is possible that the first experience was not successful, so today we want to tell you about some of the secrets of working with this interesting material.

How to sew a string of elastic, interested in many sewing lovers. After all, with its help you can get uniform, elastic, stretchable assemblies, which fit tightly to the body in the finished product, but do not hinder movements. Such assemblies can be used at the neck, at the waist line, at the bottom of the sleeve or completely sew the whole part (for example, the bodice of the sarafan).

So, today we will talk about how to sew with a thread-elastic band, in other words, about using it as one of the threads that will be refueled in a typewriter. To obtain an elastic assembly, it is used as the lower one.

The spool should be wound around the bobbin instead of a regular thread. How to sew on a typewriter? You will learn about this a little later. Wind it on the bobbin can be manually or automatically. There is no difference. Especially stretch the elastic is not worth it, it will wind up with some stretching. But this is not so important. The main sprain of the thread will occur when it is fed from the bobbin. Here at this moment it is necessary to dwell in somewhat more detail.

It is necessary to adjust the tension of the rubber band correctly. This can be achieved with a screw on the bobbin case. The thread must come from it not tightly and not weakly, but with some effort. Pull the tip of the thread - it should first stretch out, and then start winding off the bobbin. With a screw, you can get a different stretch, and therefore, a different degree of assembly.

So, now the spool is correctly and accurately wound on the bobbin thread. How to sew the necessary part and what to use for the top line? On top, we use a conventional thread, but it is desirable to be stronger than a cotton thread. It is better to use a reinforced thread. The fact is that during the operation of the product the stitch will experience considerable loads. The upper thread should be slightly loosened, so that the weave was on the wrong side of the fabric. Set the maximum stitch length.

Is the thread-thread correct? How to sew to make the assembly uniform? You will be able to understand this using a prototype made of the fabric from which the product is sewn. The stitch is executed on the front side. Its quality is to be assessed from the front side of the fabric. If the assembly is not very uniform, adjust the stitch length and thread tension.

Having completed the first line, you may get the impression that the line is a little weak. In order to get a stable build, you need to make at least 3-4 lines.

Today you learned about what a string is, how to sew, using this original and very useful material for every good housewife. We hope that the knowledge gained will help you to create interesting models with assemblies or buffers.
