The peak of Communism is the pride of Tajikistan
The Peak of Communism ... Probably, not only inveterate climbers and conquerors of earthly peaks, but even average schoolchildren and students, have heard about this mountain peak. Why? Yes, because the names of such high points of the planet as Everest, K2, Kanchenjunga, Annapurna, Peak Communism are very often mentioned in modern books, popular science newspapers and magazines, feature films and documentaries.
Let's try and we deal with this, of course, an interesting geographical object.
Peak of Communism. general description
The south-west wall, located above the Belyaev glacier, is considered very steep and dangerous for ascents, because Breaks off more than 2 km. Its characteristic element is the so-called "paunch", which is a rock bastion at an altitude of 600-800 m with an average steepness of more than 80 °.
Sounds impressive, right? But, nevertheless, it is here that one of the most difficult mountaineering routes of the world is laid. In total there are 35 of them, and the uniqueness of technical parameters is a unique feature of each: there is a colossal difference in altitude (up to about 2500 m) and a considerable steepness exceeding 50 °.
In general, climbing the peak of Lenin, Everest, Aconcagua or any other peak, as a rule, begins with the passage of the classical, or basic, ascent. For the Peak of Communism, this is the edge of the Stormy Petrel. This route crosses the firn plateau of the Pamirs, which differs in that it deserves the glory of the highest situated and longest on the planet. Its length and really impressive - 12 km, and the width is slightly more than 3 km, while the lower point is at an altitude of 4700 m and gradually smoothly passes to the upper mark - 6300 m.
Peak of Communism. Its history
To begin with, this mountain peak was discovered, it can be said, quite by accident. Almost 100 years ago (in 1928), a scientific expedition was working in its vicinity, studying local geology, flora and fauna. At the very beginning, scientists mistakenly took the mountain for the open year before Peak Garmo. This lasted for several years, until 1932, when specialists finally established that the above-mentioned peak is 20 km from the Peak of Communism and is not considered the highest point of the mountain chain.
How did you manage to set the height? With the help of topographic surveys conducted by I. Dorofeev . It was he who established the true height at 7495 m. After that, the place was put on a map and at first assigned to him the sonorous name of the great leader of that time, IV Stalin. And only in 1962 the peak was renamed into the Communism Peak, which is more familiar to us.
But the locals call the peak of Uzterga, which in Russian translates to "breathtaking" or "dizzying". Indeed, from such a height and head do not hesitate for long, and the spirit captures.
