The first aid for carbon monoxide poisoning is knowledge that saves life

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a toxic gas without aroma and color, more commonly known in the people as "carbon monoxide", is formed during the combustion of coal and organic substances in the absence of sufficient air flow.

In air, carbon monoxide is released in blast furnaces, open-hearth furnaces, foundries, and many other industries, with transport operations, etc. The maximum allowable concentration is 20 mg CO per 1 m 3 of air.

What symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning can occur:

• headache;

• violation of color perception;

• nausea, vomiting;

• CNS disorders are manifested by trembling, loss of consciousness, convulsions, coma;

• cyanosis of the face and mucous membrane;

• irregularities in the work of the heart;

• impaired renal and endocrine gland function;

• a breathing disorder;

• as a rule, hyperthermia (38-40 °).

With long and frequent exposure to carbon monoxide factors, there is a possibility of developing chronic poisoning, which is characterized by:

• dizziness;

• headache;

• mental and autonomic disorders;

• arrhythmia, tachycardia, hypotension.

There are also possible consequences, which are often associated with a violation of mental and nervous activity. If a person inhales long-term carbon monoxide in high consistencies, he has a toxic effect on his body, which contributes to the rapid development of oxygen starvation.

First aid for carbon monoxide poisoning:

• Take the exposed person to fresh air. Do not forget about your safety. In the absence of a gas mask or respirator, use a damp, dense cloth that you put on your face - this will reduce the access of toxic gases to the respiratory tract;

• Arrange the person horizontally, release him from the restraining clothes;

• If you lose consciousness, attach the cotton wool with ammonia to your nose;

• Immediately call the emergency room.

First aid for carbon monoxide poisoning in an easy degree:

  • Rub your breasts, put warmers at the feet if possible, and mustards on your back and chest. Screw into a blanket or blanket;
  • Recommended hot drink (coffee, tea).

The first aid for poisoning with carbon monoxide should be provided immediately, even before the arrival of physicians, including resuscitation should be carried out in the absence of the victim's life signs.

Artificial respiration

• free the oral cavity of mucus, saliva, vomit;

• Try to achieve maximum airway patency (tilt the victim's head and try to push his lower jaw so that the chin takes a more elevated position);

• If the jaws are tightly squeezed, then open the mouth with the extension of the lower jaw forward by pressing the index fingers on its corners;

• Close the victim's nose, covering his mouth with gauze or a handkerchief, exhale. Then slightly open the victim's mouth and nose (passive exhalation). At this time, take your head off and do 1-2 breaths;

• At 1 minute, 12-18 breaths are done.

The first aid for poisoning with gas in the form of indirect heart massage, rendered in the first minutes after the stoppage of his activity (albeit not very experienced person), often brings much more success than all the manipulations of a professional resuscitator done later for 5-6 minutes:

• put your hands (palm on the palm of your hand) on the bottom third of the sternum;

• With rapid shocks push on the sternum, after each take away your hands. The displacement should be up to 4-5 cm;

• In 1 minute, up to 60 compressions must be done. When providing indirect heart massage in parallel with artificial respiration, two persons take 4-5 shocks per breath.

When the same actions are performed, 1 person after 8-10 massage jerks makes 2 breaths. Control of self-activity of the heart is carried out every minute.

In time, the first aid for carbon monoxide poisoning can save the life of the victim.
