Naum Korzhavin - biography and creativity

Biography

First, let's talk about where and when Nahum Korzhavin was born. His biography began on October 14, 1925 in Kiev. I got carried away with poetry early. He studied at the school in Kiev. Before the war, according to the recollections of our hero, was expelled from this institution, as the reason was called conflict with the director. Nikolai Aseev noticed the young poet in Kiev. It was he who told about the young man in the literary environment of Moscow. When the Great Patriotic War began, the poet from Kiev was evacuated. Due to myopia, I did not join the army. In 1944 he went to Moscow. I tried to become a student at the Gorky Literary Institute. However, he did not succeed. In 1945 he entered the university. Among the neighbors in the hostel our hero was Vladimir Tendryakov and Rasul Gamzatov. In 1947, at the height of the Stalin campaign, whose goal was "the struggle against cosmopolitanism," the young poet was arrested. About 8 months he had to spend in the isolator of the Ministry of State Security of the USSR, as well as at the Institute of Serbian. As a result, our hero was convicted according to the resolution of the Special Meeting at the MGB. He was sentenced to exile. Judged by articles 58-1 and 7-35 of the Penal Code, he was thus recognized as a "socially dangerous element". In the autumn of 1948 our hero was deported to Siberia. About 3 years he spent in a village called Chumakovo. From 1951 to 1954 he served a link to the territory of Karaganda. At this time he finished his studies at a mining technical school. In 1953, Mr .. received a diploma of a Steiger. After the amnesty he went to Moscow. In 1956 he was rehabilitated. He was restored at the institute. Graduated from this institution in 1959, the poet to life earned himself translations. During the "thaw" began to print poetry in various magazines. Wide popularity was brought to him by the publication of a selection of works in the pages of the poetic collection "The Tarusa Pages". In 1963 his book "Years" was published. In this collection of poet included poems written for the period from 1941 to 1961. In 1967, the Stanislavsky Theater staged the play "Once in the Twenties," written by our hero. In addition to official publications, the poet's work also has an underground component. Many poems were distributed in the lists of samizdat. In 1960, the poet spoke in defense of the "prisoners of conscience" Galanskov and Ginzburg, Daniel and Sinyavsky. These circumstances caused the ban on printing his works.

Emigration

Naum Korzhavin entered into a conflict with the authorities of the Soviet Union, which was continually exacerbated. In 1973, after questioning, which was held in the prosecutor's office, our hero filed an application, where he asked for permission to leave the country. He explained his step by "lack of air necessary for life". The poet went to the USA. Settled in Boston. He was included in the number of members of the editorial board of "Continent". He continued his poetic work. In 1976, his collection of poems The Times was published in Frankfurt am Main. In 1981, there was published a book "Plexus". In post-perestroika times our hero had the opportunity to travel to Russia, he was allowed to conduct poetry evenings. He came to the Russian capital for the first time, received Okudzhava's personal invitation. It was in the eighties. The first place where he performed his speech is the House of Cinema. The hall was completely filled. On the side balconies put extra chairs, which were taken from the offices of workers. When Okudzhava and Korzhavin appeared on stage, the whole hall rose and applauded standing. Our hero did not see well. Therefore, Okudzhava leaned toward him and said that the hall greets them standing. Korzhavin was very embarrassed. Then he read poetry and answered various questions. All this he did from memory. I could not read the book because of poor vision. From the audience began to emerge actors who came to the meeting as spectators. Without preparation, they read from the book any of the poems on which the collection was randomly opened.

Reviews

Naum Korzhavin as a poet is evaluated in different ways. Wolfgang Cossack calls his lyrics dense, mean for imagery.
